    Job Description

    This application is for a 12-week internship role from June - August 2022. Resume review begins in January 2022.

    As an intern, you will work in Biogen’s Product and Technology Development (PTD) organization engaged in laboratory activities supporting the development and characterization of therapeutic products, manufacturing processes and new technologies.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION 

    This scientific opportunity is with the Analytical Development - Anti-sense Oligonucleotides (ASOs) Department.  We develop advanced analytical technologies to help understand ASO chemistry, support process development and manufacturing of ASOs with an aim of delivering quality therapies to treat challenging neurological diseases. This role is focused on studying degradation mechanism of ASOs using LC-MS analysis of custom synthesized ASO sequences. The summer intern will have an opportunity to work on state-of-the art high resolution MS instruments. 

    The work will include analytical method development, specifically in protein analysis by liquid chromatography (LC) and mass spectrometry.   You will work closely with analytical chemists to develop, evaluate, and potentially qualify LC-based analytical methods. 

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • You should have excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills. 
    • You should have experience working in a laboratory environment (preparing samples, serial dilution, preparation of buffers, pipetting) and presenting experimental data.
    • Hands-on HPLC/UPLC experience and a basic understanding of mass spectrometry are a plus.
    • Knowledge of oligonucleotide chemistry is also a plus

    To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
    • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
    • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

    EDUCATION 

    Individuals pursuing a Master’s or Doctoral degree in any of the following: Analytical Chemistry, Natural Products Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field.
