    Job Description

    This is for a 12-week internship position from June – August 2020

    SUMMARY

    Quality Control (QC) Analytical Technology (AT) serves as the bridge between development labs and the QC lab. QC AT takes new instrumentation, methods, and concepts from the proof-of-concept stage and enables their execution in the highly regulated QC environment for routine analysis of medicines to ensure their safety, quality, identity, purity, and potency.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The individual will perform method optimization for antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) medicines in the Quality Control laboratory. Potential areas of investigation include the impacts of mass spectrometric (MS) analysis modes and reagent grades on MS-based quantitation, alternative liquid chromatographic separation approaches, and optimized sample preparation. The intern will learn industry-leading analytical technologies, problem-solving strategies, pharmaceutical product development, and scientific communication.

    Responsibilities include data generation and analysis, experimental design, report writing and reviewing, and delivering internal scientific presentations.

    To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

    • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
    • Grade point average of 3.2 or higher preferred
    • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
    • Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
    • Coursework in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, and/or analytical chemistry preferred
    • Experience with analytical instrumentation (U/HPLC and/or MS) in a research or industry setting preferred
    • Experience formulating and testing hypotheses, quick learner, ability to communicate scientific concepts, attention to detail, works well on a team, strong work ethic, desires to produce a positive impact in our business

    EDUCATION

    Physical or life sciences major. Undergraduate research or work experience is preferred. Graduate student (MS, Ph.D., Pharm.D., or equivalent), or rising 3rd or 4th year undergraduate.
