    Job Description

    The Associate Director of Project Controls is a strategic member of Biogen’s Global Engineering Organization. Reporting to the Head of Global Engineering, this individual will be responsible for building, implementing, and maintaining a strategic planning program for all relevant capital project controls and reporting. They will also partner with the Global Capital Portfolio Management Lead on data collection and presentations to support portfolio processes (monthly portfolio reporting, annual operating plan, and long-range planning). This team will provide valuable inputs and build robust business cases to shape Biogen’s long term capital investment and recapitalization plans.

    What You’ll Do

    • Execute project control activities (estimating, cost management, (re)forecasting, asset segregation, scheduling, earned value, etc.) on all projects for the planning, engineering, construction, commissioning / qualification, turnover, and closeout project stages.
    • Be the Business Program Owner for project and portfolio control processes; develop and monitor an effective system of portfolio / project controls (scoping, cost and schedule) for the use of internal teams, external contract staff, and design construction partners.
    • Be accountable for the budget, estimation, and scheduling standards for implementation across the organization. Compile baseline and benchmark databases appropriate for the portfolio projects.
    • Establish and prepare regular internal analysis. Conduct internal peer reviews with Finance, Tax, Procurement, and Project Management teams.
    • Provide monthly, quarterly and end-year briefings. Consolidate reports for Global Program and Project Managers to review financials, schedules status, issues, and concerns on specific projects.
    • Establish and manage a high performing team necessary to execute controls at the portfolio and individual project levels.

    Required Skills

    • 12+ years of experience in an operational or corporate capital projects group. Proven experience with direct project management or project planning of large portfolios (ex. annual capital spend greater than $100m USD)
    • 3+ years of experience working in a complex cross-matrix environment
    • Experience planning for multiple sites across various geographies
    • Experience using an enterprise level project and portfolio management tool to execute project control activities (such as: Ecosys EPC, or other planning software)
    • BS, MS, or other advanced degree or exceptional experience in engineering, construction management, or relevant sector

    Preferred Skills

    • Experience within biotech, pharmaceutical, or medical device industries strongly preferred
    • Global experience preferred
    • PMP and/or PMI certification preferred
