    Job Description

    ABOUT THIS ROLE

    Biogen's Gene Therapy Department is searching for an individual to act as a technical leader for the Cell Line Technology group. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with other groups within the Gene Therapy, Research, and external partners to drive innovation of new cell line technologies to produce AAV viral vectors.  Success in this position will require the candidate to drive innovations in molecular biology to improve Biogen AAV production systems. This individual will also drive program development as needed to support future AAV products.  

    WHAT YOU’LL DO

    • Work collaboratively within the Cell Line Technology group to drive innovation of new AAV vector production technologies via plasmid vector design, molecular cloning, and cell engineering. Engages in internal collaborations with other Gene Therapy or Technical Development groups to achieve objectives and implement scientific advancements in the Gene Therapy field.
    • Openly communicate across functions and departments while maintaining good collaborative relationships. 
    • Provide technical expertise on topics pertaining to AAV production system development especially novel molecular biology, systems biology, and cell line engineering.  Presents findings and/or results to senior management, external stakeholders, and industry peers at conferences.

    WHO YOU ARE

    This individual will drive technology innovation internally and help provide oversight of multiple projects as a subject matter expert.  There will be opportunities to represent the Cell Line Development group on Program specific multifunctional technical development teams.  

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

    • Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Synthetic Biology, Microbiology, or a closely related discipline with 0-3 years of relevant experience
    • M.S. degree with 5+ years relevant experience
    • Extensive experience in molecular biology including plasmid design, molecular cloning, gene assembly, and cell line engineering.
    • In depth understanding of mammalian gene expression control such as transcriptional and translational regulations and inducible switches.    
    • Proven track record of publications and presentations.
    • Demonstrated experience in independent project design and execution in a collaborative research/team setting.

    PREFERRED SKILLS

    • Experience with AAV biology or other viral vectors
    • Experience with next-generation sequencing and interest in bioinformatics
