    Job Description

    This position supports our Research & Development organization. Individual will own the accounting for Phase 1/2/3 clinical trials.  Candidate will partner with Clinical Financial Planners and study teams. This position will report to the Associate Director, Accounting and will be responsible for the following:                                     

    • Responsible for Clinical Trial accounting for Phase 1/2/3 stage clinical trials.  Accurately estimate and accrue clinical trial fees and services by working closely with Clinical Financial Planners, Clinical Trial Managers, Contract Managers and External Vendors (CRO’s) to understand clinical trial contractual terms, incurred activities and BIIB obligations.
    • Responsible for month-end/quarter-end close for selected Phase 1/2/3 clinical trials, including preparation, Oracle entry and documentation of journal entries
    • Maintain control of key areas of balance sheet including monthly/quarterly reconciliations and support of external and internal audit
    • Ensure compliance with SOX requirements and BIIB Accounting Policies & Procedures
    • Partner with Clinical Trial Financial Planners to analyze actual vs. budget variances
    • Drive high quality, accurate, financial and operations analysis and reporting
    • Partner with Clinical Trial Managers and Contract Managers to ensure that payments to CRO’s and investigators are consistent with the contract. Act as point person for any accounting/invoicing questions regarding assigned clinical trials
    • Enhance the Clinical Trials Accrual Methodology to streamline reporting and enhance accuracy to minimize variability between actual results and budgets
    • Manage other R&D Accounting processes as assigned during the month/quarter end closes                          
    • Identify areas of improvement where more financial rigor is required and be responsible for providing this information to senior management
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • 6+ years relevant accounting/finance experience required; prior experience with Hyperion/Oracle preferred
    • Education Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; CPA/MBA preferred
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and customer service orientation required
    • Independent self-starter. Seeks to continually improve business processes.
    • A proactive thinker with a healthy dissatisfaction for the status quo who initiates and drives change
