Job Description

The Cloud Core Platform Owner is accountable for planning and working with the Engineering teams to analyze, define and engage a comprehensive cloud platform hosting roadmap, including relevant performance measures, addressing issues and challenges, future plans for change and opportunities for improvements. Also provide visibility and usage dashboards to key stakeholders, given recommendations on how to optimize performance, costs and control. Proactively socialize the platform roadmap with IT functions and business units, presenting platform health and operational performance against established metrics. This role also leads the analysis to identify, migrate and expand multi-cloud hosting platforms by extending cost-effective use and/or reducing platform costs through rationalization, consolidation, streamlining, and price negotiation.  The role further acts as a liaison and partner within IT, representing the Team in operational meetings, project delivery, and other forums where Cloud Platform representation is required.  This lead is accountable for the following in particular: 

1.  Cloud Journey & Management: Evaluate current process and drive execution of simplification, automation, resiliency and continuous improvement initiatives.

2.  Define multi-cloud strategy & operating model; designing, building and operating the platform roadmap

3.  Define strategic metrics and review platform health, availability, capacity and performance, supporting MSP cloud operation’s team.

4.  Cloud Migration Planning: Define and oversee cloud migration roadmap ensuring that consistency decisions are in line with Global Hosting Strategy

5.  Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, service providers and business units on shared goals and projects that satisfy business and IT objectives.

Qualifications

4-7 years’ experience and technical expertise in cloud management AWS/Azure, including exposure to planning, set up and governance of multi-cloud environment. 

Distinguishing capabilities:

Additional Scope / Qualified by the following:

1. Partners with IT Functions to drive cost-efficiency and cloud adoption within process and governance in place

2. Defines and develops the platform roadmap, including relevant performance measures, addressing current issues and challenges, future plans for changes and opportunities for improvement

3. Executes on the platform roadmap, actively manage the platform as a set of interconnected assets and manage cross-platform dependencies. Present financial show back and planning associated with platform roadmaps

4. Identifies and realizes opportunities to increase the value of the platform by extending cost-effective use and/or reducing platform costs through rationalization, consolidation, streamlining, and price negotiation

5. Manages and leads cloud management tools as well as provide MSP guidance and support for cloud operations (measurement, forecasting, optimization and financial show back).

6. The Cloud Core Platform Owner also oversees (doted line) MSP and contracted resources (Cloud Vendors) hired to support Biogen’s Next Generation Hosting.

Additional Information

The Cloud Core Platform Owner is accountable for the design, build, operate and success of Biogen’s cloud hosting Strategy, globally. Also, this lead will drive the cloud operating model and implement an end-to-end approach towards multi cloud journey.
