    INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST

    LAW SCHOOL 

     

     

    JOB DESCRIPTION: The Information Technology Specialist will provide outstanding customer service and desktop support to the faculty, students and staff in the Law School. They will operate and maintain technology products and services supported by the Law School’s IT Office. Supported services include: end point management, network management, software development, database administration, and audiovisual management. The IT Specialist will enforce protocols and follow procedures, maintain asset inventory, and collaborate with engineering teams on operational requirements.  

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

     

    • The IT Specialist is responsible for the diagnosis of computer-related issues throughout the Law School. The IT Specialist will follow developed processes and guidelines to troubleshoot and resolve complex problems either in person or using remote control software.  

    • Responds to requests for technical assistance either in person or using remote control software. The candidate ensures timely closeout of trouble tickets.   

    • Investigates & resolves network issues, including performance, printing, e-mail, and general system problems.  

    • Configures and installs computers for new hires and/or system replacements.  

    • Assists students with a variety of hardware/software issues on their personal laptops and provides support  for wireless connectivity to the network.

      

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • IT Specialists should have completed a have completed an associate’s degree program or higher in a computer science, information science, engineering, or equivalent field. Non-associate’s degrees are accepted with equivalent years of experience and relevant professional certifications.  

    • IT Specialists maintain computer systems, provide technical support and teach their clients the basic skills they need to operate newly installed programs. With information technology constantly changing, Specialists must stay up-to-date on emerging technologies. Furthermore, IT Specialists should maintain current relevant training and certifications. Common certifications for IT Specialists include A+ and Linux+ certifications offered by CompTIA. IT Specialists can also pursue Microsoft Certified IT Professional and Cisco Certified Network Associate credentials. =

    • The IT Specialist should have at least two years of experience with IT support or technical customer service. Experience supporting and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows and Macintosh computers.  

    • Demonstrated experience working in collaboration with a team as an effective team member. 

    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse clientele. Self-motivated and self-directed – a self-starter who can identify and solve problems on their own. 

    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.  

    • Demonstrated ability to work independently. Organizational skills and attention to detail is critical. Exercise good judgment, logic and troubleshooting skills to anticipate and solve problems independently. Proven experience in handling multiple priorities simultaneously. Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends, when necessary. 

    • With information technology constantly changing, Specialists must stay up-to-date on emerging technologies.     6)  Must have very good oral and written communication skills sufficient to explain departmental policy, methods and/or procedures when completing assignments.
