    DIVISION/DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

     

    The Department of Biological Sciences at the Queens campus of St. John’s University located in New York City is seeking applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the area of Genetics. This is a broadly defined position under the genetics umbrella with consideration for research utilizing any organism in areas such as genetics, genomics, evolutionary genetics, evolution of development, bioinformatics, medical genetics, and related disciplines. We are seeking a highly collaborative colleague who can engage with faculty and students from wide biological disciplines and backgrounds. We have an active faculty with most having NIH or NSF funded research programs. Additionally, many of our faculty maintain collaborations with colleagues at surrounding institutions, such as Columbia University, New York University, and the New York Botanical Garden. The Department of Biological Sciences, with roughly 1000 undergraduate B.S. students, is the largest department on campus. We also maintain robust M.S. and Ph.D. programs.     RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    We anticipate this position to begin in Fall 2022. We aim to support our successful candidate in establishing an extramurally funded research program. They will also be expected to mentor and teach undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. students in their research area. Finally, we strongly encourage them to become engaged with efforts on campus to expand diversity and inclusion in our curriculum, student support, and professional development.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

     

    Successful candidates will have a PhD or other graduate degree in a biological field. Ideal candidates will have postdoctoral research experience and a strong record of research accoplishments.
