    ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR BUDGET AND PLANNING

     

    Position Summary:

    Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Budget and Planning, the Associate Director for Budget and Planning is responsible for the development and monitoring of the University’s operating budget.

     

    Responsibilities:

    · Directs and guides the development of the annual budget process in support of the University’s strategic vision which results in an annual operating budget recommended to the Board of Trustees for approval.

    · Organizes, administers, and continually improves all aspects of budget preparation, reporting, and analysis including collection, review, and consolidation of budget submissions from schools and central offices, analysis of budget and actual results, and forecasting future trends.

    · Demonstrates day-to-day leadership and guidance by proactively managing and providing clear, timely, and University compliant solutions on a wide range of administrative and financial matters.

    · Manages and monitors the current year’s budget, provides oversight and directs departmental financial planning and accounting practices for all operating budget projects, maintains financial management reporting and control systems, monitors department operating expense, and oversees compliance with University policies and procedures.

    · Establishes and maintains internal controls relating to the operating budget and ensures compliance with University policies and procedures.

    · Monitors accounts, reconciles expenditures, and tracks pending transactions and commitments, including all payroll transactions to forecast budget savings and exposures.

    · Provides guidance and direction to departmental budget administrators and works in collaboration with and across departments to complete all monthly and year-end transactions for each department.

    · Assists with the preparation of various reports requested by senior management and reporting to the Board of Trustees.

    · Provides assistance with external financial statement audit as requested.

    · Assists with the maintenance and upgrades to Banner (the University’s general ledger system).

    · Trains, mentors, and supervises staff.

    · Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    · Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance-related field.

    · Seven or more years of experience in budgeting and planning.

    · Expert-level computer proficiency (Microsoft Excel and Word), including in-depth knowledge of spreadsheet packages and familiarity with database design.

    · Outstanding financial analysis and modeling skills required, including variance analysis and ability to design and prepare detailed financial reports and analyses.

    · Must possess excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.

    · Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

    · Successfully demonstrated ability to set priorities and work on multiple tasks.

    · Strong management skills and ability to work as part of a team.

    · Must demonstrate a history of independent judgment, initiative, and problem-solving.

    · Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn and be challenged.

     

    Preferred Qualifications:

    · MBA or comparable advanced degree preferred.

    · Experience in Higher Education is highly desired.

    · Knowledge of Ellucian Banner financial systems and Hyperion Brio a plus.
