    Duties and Responsibilities

     

    The person selected for this position will:

    • Facilitate and teach courses in the Ph.D. in the Literacy program
    • Serve as a dissertation mentor and reader
    • Manage and develop doctoral programs and supporting activities
    • Advise students and assist with registration concerns
    • Conduct research and/or other scholarly activities
    • Support Ph.D. recruiting events and marketing efforts
    • Serve on department, division, and university committees and in faculty governance
    • Develop new program initiatives to increase effectiveness and growth
    • Prepare course schedules and assigning instructors
    • Recruit adjunct faculty members
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of the program, write End of Year reports, serve with the assessment committee of the School of Education, and contribute to accreditation reviews
    • Screen student applications
    • Assist in the verification of student graduation qualifications
    • Administer Comprehensive Exams in collaboration with program faculty
    • Organize dissertation committees and recruiting expert reviewers
    • Respond to student concerns and advocating for student success
    • Ensure equitability in admissions, instruction, and mentorship

     

    Qualifications

     

    Requires a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Literacy Education or a related field; evidence of scholarly activity; teaching experience related to addressing the literacy needs of all children, including those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Preference may be given for at least three years of teaching experience in schools including the teaching of reading; evidence of experience working on diversity initiatives; clinical experience with children who have reading difficulties; evidence that demonstrates operational knowledge and use of effective instructional practices at all levels of teaching; experience with on-line teaching and learning; experience in teaching writing instruction and/or elementary literacy methods; and/or evidence of engagement in professional leadership activities.
