Title Continuous Improvement Consultant The Continuous Improvement Consultant is a full-time employed position that facilitates, leads, and provides coaching across the Bronson System in improvement events, lean learning cycles, and continuous improvement projects. This position works closely with Bronson leaders using the A3 problem-solving process to define the problem to be solved, understand the current condition, set the desired target condition (including goals), and then facilitate/coach a team to develop innovative solutions and process changes that improve performance using Evidence-Driven Improvement. This position also serves as a coach to leaders and staff in daily problem-solving structures such as daily huddles and leadership Gemba walks. In addition to facilitating and coaching, this position delivers engaging training in Lean Thinking to leaders, physicians, and staff. Ideal candidates will have significant experience leading process improvement efforts, facilitating groups, and building teams. Knowledge and experience in Lean Thinking and High Reliability methods preferred. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served. Bachelors degree in a related field (for example: a BSN, BS, or BBA) is required Masters Degree in a healthcare or business related discipline is preferred 3-5 years of process management and/or continuous improvement experience is required Experience with Lean Thinking preferred Experience in a healthcare setting preferred Certification in continuous improvement methodology (for example; Lean, High Reliability) is preferred upon employment and is required within 2 years of employment. Experience in multi-disciplinary/systems-focused project management Experience with facilitation, education and training Ability and experience in utilizing computer software including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, electronic mail, and other software relevant to the job Demonstrated high level of analytic ability required to gather, organize, analyze, and interpret complex data and develop recommendations for unique organizational opportunities Demonstrated team leadership/facilitation skills Ability to work effectively across departments, with internal and external customers and suppliers to accomplish mutually determined objectives Knowledge of process improvement tools and methodology (i.e. PDCA, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills Must have self-confidence along with strong teamwork skills Must have conflict management and resolution skills Ability to conduct crucial conversations Must have skills in formal presentations to groups Must have excellent customer service skills for initiation, recommendation, implementation, and evaluation of assigned projects Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking, standing, stooping, bending, sitting, and some lifting of light weight objects. Facilitate rapid cycle improvement events with operational leadership by: o Identifying problem o Setting goals o Analyzing current state o Solving problems at the root cause o Implementing solutions o Monitoring performance o Engaging in the PDCA cycle post-event o Coach leaders and other staff in process improvement tactics and leadership to allow them to maintain improvements post-event Manage process improvement by progressing the request from beginning to end, including o Scheduling meetings o Communicating with professional, effective meeting summaries or minutes o Establishing scope document and timelines o Determining appropriate length of event based on scope o Negotiating with and influencing leaders to pursue recommended approach o Facilitating 1-5 day events o Documenting group activities o Ongoing monitoring of group effectiveness and coaching of individuals as needed o Developing/recording recommendations for change o Oversight of revising policies and procedures related to the Kaizen events o Communicating recommended changes and/or group outcomes to appropriate audiences in a written/oral report or presentation (e.g. Executive Oversight Groups, Medical/Nursing/Other Leadership, etc.) o Analyzing project scope and objectives for alignment with the overall strategic plan. o Measurement and reporting of outcomes (e.g., bed turnover data, census data, hours per patient day, patient wait time, and regional referrals) with the goal of enabling independence for continued measurement needs. Follows department standard work related to: o Pre-event planning o Scoping/Current State Analysis o Event Report Out o Monitoring metrics in post-event sustainability process o PDCA o Implementing Daily Management tactics o Communication and Celebration of Success o SharePoint site for team collaboration and event management o Other areas necessary for job performance Use Lean tools to analyze/evaluate work processes in a variety of departments and provide formal recommendations to leaders at all levels in the organization. o Educate management and non-management staff relative to process improvement utilizing PDCA/Lean/Six Sigma/ etc. tools. o Serve as an organizational resource for process improvement, evaluation of trends, and measurement. o Implement and teach effective 5S methods and principles across the organization. o Utilize PDCA, Lean, and other principles and methods to enhance business and clinical performance. Complete facilitation, training, and coaching activities with a high degree of success as measured by post-event surveys, client comments, and sustainability metrics. Measure and document progress towards business and other objectives related to Lean and continuous improvement processes. Facilitate the discovery and measurement of cost reduction opportunities and value creation opportunities Seek out improvement opportunities across the Bronson system and recommend them to the Supervisor of Process Management. Establish change control, communication and education plans with Kaizen customers regarding events and event outcomes. Practice self-awareness of needed improvement, with plans and activities related to ongoing professional learning and development, to expand the capacity for more responsibility and greater accomplishment.
