    Job Description

    The Phoenix Department of Chromalloy Castings Tampa primarily handles metal finishing operations such as blending and blasting as well as minor repair and non-destructive testing (NDT).  Like other process areas of the facility, there is a manufacturing engineer, also referred to as a “process owner” who is responsible for the engineering of the area.  The process owner defines the working parameters, techniques and equipment / tools to use for each component to be processed through the operations of that department.  Therefore, the process owner is not only responsible for the actual processing of the component but also the documentation of the procedures, standards and usage as associated with the process.  In the Phoenix Department, the manufacturing engineer will oversee the finishing operations, welding and airflow testing.

     

    A manufacturing engineering technician assists the process area manufacturing engineer or is the responsible process owner for a subset of the process area. The process owner identifies as the engineering expert of the area and as such is expected to be a self-starter and contact point of the manufacturing area.  The process owner is expected to provide solutions as are identified as part of daily work and also provide continuous improvement in the area especially as it relates to safety, throughput and scrap reduction.  This position reports to the manufacturing engineering manager, who is responsible for all manufacturing processing areas of the Tampa facility. Specific direction will be provided by the post-casting manufacturing engineer.  A manufacturing engineering technician is a full time position with typical full time benefits, and will initially be an hourly position available for overtime.

     

    Essential Duties

    ·         Utilizes process knowledge, basic engineering principles, previous experience, and creativity as necessary to develop processes that result in the production of quality castings that conform to customer specifications and delivery deadlines

    ·         Review customer specifications and blueprints to determine the procedures, testing, and routing sequences required to meet the dimensional metallurgical part requirements to continue the manufacturing process

    ·         Participate in plant initiatives to support the reduction of scrap, rework and overall casting cost.  Initiatives include but not limited to daily scrap reviews, development of SPC for significant process steps and participation in cost improvement teams

    ·         Develop and maintain shop instruction templates & general standard procedures

    ·         Interface with customer representatives to develop new products, participate in joint cost reduction initiatives, and support general customer program requirements

    ·         Develop new technology to support plant initiatives

    Key Requirements for a Manufacturing Engineer in the Phoenix Department

    ·         Engineering Degree or Background of Equivalent Experience, especially with a broad knowledge of part finishing and material handling (blending, blasting, welding), and use of engineering fundamentals (airflow)

    ·         User of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)

    ·         Familiarity with Six Sigma Methods and Tools, and Associated Engineering Statistical Methods

    ·         Self-Motivated Characteristics with Responsibility Ownership

    ·         US Citizen / Permanent Resident (ITAR Regulations)

     

    Work Environment / Physical Demands

    ·         While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment varies from quiet in office areas to very loud in the manufacturing environment.  However, the eight-hour time weighted exposure to noise averages less than 85 dBA.

    ·         While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
