    Research Associate Position Summary This position is in the Chemistry R&D group and is primarily a bench level job focusing on development of new chemistry and sample preparation technologies for PCR based diagnostic applications. The ideal candidate will have experience in general molecular biology methods such as nucleic acid extraction and real-time PCR, as well as experience with basic techniques in organic chemistry and analytical chemistry. This candidate will assist in the development of novel assays for identifying and characterizing various diseases from various tissues or bodily fluids. In addition to technical qualifications, the ideal candidate will be highly goal-oriented, inquisitive, organized, and be able to thrive in an atmosphere of shifting demands and priorities. The candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to work in a cross-functional team-based environment is a requirement. Essential Responsibilities Support chemistry research activities for assay development Performs analytical verification studies to demonstrate GeneXpert assay performance Executes studies based on existing procedures with some guidance and direction. Follows product development lifecycle process and design control Maintains detailed experimental records and documents results in a technical report in a laboratory notebook. Analyzes data using statistical tools such as Microsoft Excel or Minitab. Presents data at internal technical meetings. Requirements Bachelor's degree with 0-2 years of related work experience MS (or BS with equivalent experience) in relevant field - e.g. Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Biology, Genetics or related field. Experience performing real time PCR or RT-PCR reactions. Experience with basic techniques in organic and analytical chemistry Experience performing nucleic acid extraction/purification. Knowledge in handling clinical samples and ability to work in a BSL-2 environment. Knowledge of biological and chemical safety. Ability to ask questions and check for clarity and understanding. Effective written and oral communication skills, presenting data within the technical team and department.
