    DEFENSE MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING- PURCHASING

    The primary purpose of Manufacturing is to develop, implement and operate our manufacturing facilities or support our external suppliers to deliver customer specified products throughout the product lifecycle of manufacturing, assembly, disassembly, and repair that embody safety, quality, cost, and delivery, ensuring compliance to the design intent.

    Within all our manufacturing businesses of aerospace and marine, we focus on four core areas to help us deliver a capable and reliable method of production within manufacturing technology, a clear and effective strategy to product introduction into our manufacturing, assembly and repair processes, a defined method to meet technical governance and change management to preserve integrity of the customer and business requirements, and a high performing aptitude for driving continuous improvement and manufacturability throughout our supply chain process.

    Our manufacturing - purchasing team works primarily with our core external suppliers of Rolls-Royce engine products to provide consultation and expertise on design intent and requirements within the product lifecycle, creating an environment of production innovation as well as delivering superb customer care.

    WHAT YOU’LL DO:

    On this 12-week program as a Manufacturing Engineering- Purchasing Intern, you’ll gain practical experience on real-life assignments that will put your theoretical knowledge to the test. Along the way, you’ll work alongside some true experts and be taught valuable skills.

    As an intern, you’ll be assigned a manufacturing engineer as your line manager, so you’ll be learning directly from a skilled professional. All the projects you do will be in support of a real business need, with a direct link to our products and customers. It makes for a fantastic opportunity to share your ideas and really make a difference. Not only will you receive on-the-job training, but you’ll also develop a host of transferable skills. Your day-to-day tasks will vary, and you’ll receive support from different people within the business, all of whom will be committed to helping you to deliver your best.

    Accountabilities:

    • Ensuring product integrity for component or system is delivered through direct interaction with supplier and engineering design

    • Working with suppliers on method of manufacture for new components as a liaison between Rolls-Royce Engineering

    • Learning and working with the methods used to verify conformity to the component definition of parts through a PPAP & FAIR process

    • Involved with educating and coaching suppliers in the application of relevant specifications and SABRe

    WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

    Candidates will have strong demonstrations of interpersonal skills, curiosity, problem solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.

    Candidates will be able to/have:

    • Ability to take initiative/self-directed

    • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

    • Strong verbal and written skills

    • How to identify a problem

    • Understanding of how to scope a task

    • Understanding how to interpret data and apply it to a decision or next action step as needed

    • Understanding the concept of continuous improvement

    RELEVANT MAJORS:

    Attending an accredited college/university working towards a bachelor’s degree:

    • Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering/or Technology

    • Aerospace Engineering/or Technology

    • Industrial Engineering/or Technology

    MINIMUM GPA: 3.0
