    Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator - Aqua 40 The **Dow Chemical Company **has an opening for an departmental Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Coordinator within the Aqua 40 group at the Minneapolis, Minnesota location. The purpose of this job is to create and enforce a culture of safety within the organization. This position implements programs, policies, and assessments to ensure the company complies with all federal, state, local, and internal health and safety rules. This person may also review reports and findings to monitor performance and detect trends related to health and safety. EHS coordinators work in a variety of fields such as ergonomic development, environmental science, occupational safety, industrial hygiene and technology, and similar fields. Since their work involves identification and interpretation of federal, state, and local safety codes, they must have outstanding analytical skills as well as a strong attention to detail. EHS coordinators work closely with leadership, fabrication engineering, and maintenance teams, as well as support staff in order to accomplish their goals. They will participate on various site teams as part of this function. EHS Coordinators report to the Site Responsible Care Leader. Although typically aligned with a single department, Coordinators work together to leverage programs across the site, business, and globally. The role is an office environment, although frequent visits to the plant floor, warehouse, or external buildings is a requirement of the role. The role maintains core business hours, although it is common to provide off-shift support for projects, training, or assessments. In cases of emergency, they may be required to be on call in order to provide guidance and logistical support. To ensure EHS positive practice and compliance across all shifts the EHS Coordinator may be responsible for the direction and leadership of Shift Safety Focal Points, and voluntary safety roles. **** Key Global Responsibilities: With guidance from the Site Responsible Care Leader, will provide support in implementing new programs and policies due to federal, state, local, and business changes. Ensures operating discipline is performed across the site utilizing audits such as procedure use and Behavior Based Performance (BBP), intervention, training, recognition, and any other resources to maintain consistent operating discipline. Owner for many elements within Operating Discipline Management System (ODMS) section 6. Responsible for yearly assessment completion which may require retaining notes and documentation throughout the year pertaining to section gaps, conducting interviews, and working with various departments to identify gaps in section element. Department and site resource for related safety and health on procedures, guidelines, and standards. Interprets federal, state, local, and business safety rules and policies. Works with global Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) as a resource for interpreting federal and business safety rules and policies. Coaching teams and individuals on safety and health related tasks and activities. Assists in developing initiative to achieve business, site, and department safety goals. Demonstrates pro-active initiative in interpreting future safety incidents and implementing policies, procedures, and direction to avoid safety incidents. Compliance Task Tool (CTT) management and coordination. Ensures tasks and documentation have been completed and submitted for library retention. Performs and coordinates safety and health monitoring, data collection, analyzing and reporting often aligned to a specific department. Performs safety reviews of new and upgraded equipment. The safety review process will often require coordination with the Tech. Center from conception, throughout design and approval, and upon installation. Coordinates auditing training and completion. Facilitate investigations and resolution from auditing findings. Facilitates investigations using formal and informal Root Cause Investigation (RCI) tools. Documents findings in the Event and Action Item (E&AT) tool, Learning Experience Reports (LERs), opportunity tracking system, ODMS assessments, and other tools. Extensive knowledge of Critical Work Standards with the ability to train, coordinate, and interpret rules, policies, and guidelines. Ability to work with global Dow SMEs to define site critical work and how to implement. Participate in the development, training, and implementation of global, site, and plant safety-training programs. Will often be called upon as the subject matter expert (SME) for such training and can be asked to facilitate and coordinate safety-related training programs. Local Responsibilities Lead department safety team. Develop training for department Safety Focal Points. Initiate requests for change to the Responsible Care Leader. Responsible for implementing change within site and department. Ensure department is in compliance with site safety standards (Time Out For Safety (TOFS,) reactive chem., and chemical storage, respirator, fall protection, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use, etc. Reviews and maintains safety documentation such as current, new, and obsolete Safety Data Sheets (SDS)). Monitor and update chemical changes such as additions and removal. Coordinate with reactive chem. team, tech center, and department resources for proper storage locations, chemical storage areas/sections, and waste monitoring and removal. Coordinates safe work permit (SWP) training, auditing, management, and retention. Provides feedback to department and leadership regarding performance and gaps. Management of hazard spot program includes mitigating hazards, development of Safety Focal Points (SFPs) in regard to hazspot management, providing feedback and recognition, and management of hazspot electronic tool. Ability to provide hazard metrics to leadership, and provide hazard areas of focus such as ergonomics, line of fire, etc. Manage dry slab program typically specific to aligned department. Provide site and department safety performance metrics. Work closely with site and department leaders to review current objectives, goals, gaps, and performance. Work closely with department leadership and health services to define and manage personal medical restrictions. Management of Change (MOC) change owner, reviewer, and final approver. Typically responsible for reviewing all procedure and equipment changes within department. Responsible for coordination of employee safety during emergency response event, evacuation, gathering, resource for environmental and health of community, site, and people during event. Works with site leadership and emergency services to manage incidents. The role maintains core business hours, although it is common to provide off- shift support for projects, training, or assessments. In cases of emergency, they may be required to be on call in order to provide guidance and logistical support. To ensure EHS positive practice and compliance across all shifts the EHS Coordinator may be responsible for the direction and leadership of Shift Safety Focal Points, and voluntary safety roles. Required Qualifications: 3 or more years of experience in a manufacturing or chemical plant role is required. Must be available to occasionally work off-shifts and overtime as demand requires. Must be able to facilitate one-on-one and group training. Good organizational skills. Good written and verbal communication skills. Computer skills with Microsoft Office programs. Good time management skills. Maintain safety focus and lead by example. Ability to organize and facilitate meetings and investigations. Ability to be discreet in use of confidential and proprietary information. Must be willing and able to wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes with or without an accommodation. A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process. Preferred Qualifications: 2+ years of previous experience in a Health and Safety role is preferred. 1+ years authorized to issue or receive safe work permits and a strong understanding of safe work permit principles and requirements is also preferred. Experience with water and/or air permits and waste handling. Developed or led safety program initiatives. Strong understanding of Isolation of Energy/Red Tag/Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) principles. Authorized to review the process system isolation and tagging. Ability to obtain certification in first aid, CPR and blood borne pathogens. Coordinate training for EHS Focal Points in certification in Blood Borne Pathogens and First Aid. Education: A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required.
