    Chemical Process Technician Interns The Dow Chemical Company is

    partnering with BridgeValley Community and Technical College in hiring Chemical Process Technician Interns for the Process Technology Training Program at our West Virginia Operations located in South Charleston, WV. The purpose of the program is to shadow Chemical Operating Technicians to learn and experience chemical industry equipment, processes, and perform operations-related activities as described and directed by a shift assigned Operator Technician/Mentor. The internship will run for 6 months. Additionally, successful candidates will demonstrate Dow's global competencies and utilize Applied Process Technology (APT) chemical manufacturing knowledge obtained at BridgeValley to gain experience in how to operate the plant in a safe and optimal manner. Work Schedule: * The successful candidates selected will work two (12 hour shifts) per week. * Selected candidates that are enrolling/currently enrolled in their 2nd year of Process Technology Associate Degree program will attend classes remaining three days per week at BridgeValley, with expected graduation in 2018. Those that have already graduated will workout their work schedule with management. Key Responsibilities: * Shadowing/supporting Operating Technicians * Following Operating Discipline principles, procedures and practices to help ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned plant areas. Making rounds with an operator and assisting in taking readings and field-checking process equipment. * Monitoring process conditions, equipment and control systems. * Performing tasks under the direct supervision/direction of an experienced operator. * Participating in troubleshooting unit upsets and abnormalities. * Witnessing the work permit system, learn about Environmental, Health & Safety systems as well as emergency preparedness. * Demonstrating Dow's global competencies showing: cooperative and active participation in operations activities, willingness and enthusiasm to learn about the facility, ability to apply self to effectively help and support operations. Required Qualifications: * Self-motivated with high standards of personal integrity. * Strong work ethic and being able to remain productive in an empowered team environment. * Good technical skills to learn how to operate both manual and highly automated equipment. * Desire to learn and grow technical skills to stay current with new automation and technology. * Able to effectively work with others. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process. Preferred Qualifications: * Prior experience in Coal, Oil/Gas, Manufacturing and/or other related industries. * Four or more years of military training/experience. Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations: * Lift, push, and pull up to 55 lbs. * Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting * Stand 50% of the time. * Walk for extended periods of time * Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders. * Work in tight and closed in spaces. * Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to respirator. * Our safety equipment has weight restrictions. In order to qualify, you must be able to use standard safety equipment which is rated for someone who weighs 300 pounds or less. Education: * A High School Diploma or GED AND one of the following are required: * Currently enrolled in the Two year Process Technology Associate degree program at BridgeValley Community & Technical College, with expected graduation from the program in 2018. * Already graduated with a Process Technology degree from BridgeValley Community & Technical College.
