    CMP Slurry - Particle Technology DuPont Electronics and Imaging business group has an opening for a Slurry R&D Research Scientist in the Chemical Mechanical Planarization Technology (CMPT) business. This role entails responsibilities both as an individual contributor on projects as well as owning and driving deliverables within the Particle Technology team. This exciting R&D research position is focused on continued development and execution of a particle technology strategy capable of delivering new innovative and differentiated products to global customers that will allow the CMPT business to grow their slurry market share in current and advanced nodes in the semiconductor industry. The role will be based in Delaware, with a main focus on new particle technology scouting and evaluation, formulation development, applications testing and product stability in support of the Particle Technology research program. This includes collaborating with the R&D team in Delaware and Taiwan on product formulation development with alternative particles, and working with global particle suppliers. Both near-term product optimization and longer-term innovation pipeline program activities will be included in the role, such as further developing collaborative research programs with current high-purity colloidal silica particle supplier(s), and working on a longer- term innovation strategy around alternative abrasive particle technologies (new materials, core-shell approaches, surface-modified or doped particles, etc.). Depending on the skills and interests of the person chosen for the role, individual contributor activities may include novel formulation development, particle synthesis, particle modification, particle characterization, etc. The role of research scientist for Slurry R&D will require advanced problem solving capabilities applied to a variety of chemical- and material- related problems, focusing on both near-term product development approaches and longer-term innovation pipeline development. Planning experiments, designing appropriate testing in collaboration with applications engineers, data analysis and preparing data packages will be required. Suitable candidates must be strong in one or more of the following areas: colloid and surface science, material science, chemical engineering, silicon chemistry, inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, tribology, rheology, or other aspects of particle and/or formulation science. Experience with particle technology in other fields is highly desired. Strong project leadership skills are required. Responsibilities: 1. Expectation to own and execute the slurry research/innovation particle strategy developed in conjunction with the existing Particle Technology team. Drives the innovation pipeline project success both through ensuring that proper program milestones and deliverables are clearly outlined and executed on, but also identification of new technology areas for team assessment and filling the innovation pipeline. 2. Develop and maintain excellent knowledge in Chemical Mechanical Planarization including slurry, pad, process capability and performance parameters, and device architecture design and processing. 3. Collaboration needed globally for innovation-based programs and research-focused engagements with particle suppliers to coordinate product development activities. 4. Participation in goal alignment meetings and regular opportunities to present on key technical projects broadly across the business and externally to customers as appropriate. 5. Form strong collaborative relationship with slurry scale-up/low-volume manufacturing team in order to facilitate smooth scale-up and commercialization of innovative products. 6. Document work in a timely fashion in ELN, internal reports, patent disclosures and external publications as appropriate. 7. Regular communication of progress, roadblocks and resource needs and solutions to the Slurry R&D Director, Global CMPT R&D Director, and the CMPT business leadership. 8. Partner with segment marketing leaders to assess product targets, project goals, and the business case around the innovation programs. Foster idea-generation within the group to explore new areas of technology interest to address exciting and challenging forward-looking customer needs. Basic Requirements * PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or relevant science field, or MS with extensive relevant experience * Minimum of 3 years product research and development experience in some aspect of particle technology (formulation, dispersion, synthesis, characterization).
