    Job Summary

    The Maintenance Engineering Intern position will have responsibility for a small expense or capital project. Small is defined as around 3 months in length and around $10,000 in cost. In addition to the project, the intern will also provide assistance with updating drawings and documentation as well as assisting the full time engineers with their projects as needed. The intern works in an environment that is highly interactive and requires excellent computer and communication skills.

    NATURE & SCOPE OF POSITION:

    The small project will require taking a project from idea through implementation, while staying within time and budget restraints. This position will report to one of the maintenance engineers.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Preparing a scope of work for a project
    • Obtaining competitive bids for fabrication, installation, parts, etc. needed to complete the project
    • Create a Management of Change form for the project and get signed off by internal customers.
    • Oversee/manage the contractors or in-house maintenance staff during the installation with a focus on safety.
    • Create a spare parts list for the project if one is needed.
    • Update any drawings or documentation that the project may change
    • If updates to internal customers are needed, attend 9am operations meeting and give an update.
    • Assist the full time engineers with their projects when availability comes open like when waiting on quotes.
    • Report all EH&S incidents - Injuries/Recordables, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage.
    • Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.

    Required Qualifications

    KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES (SKILLS & ABILITIES):

    • Be enrolled in an engineering program with the goal of getting an engineering degree.
    • Be proficient in basic computer skills like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks is a plus, but not required.

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Accepting of criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations, sensitivity to other’s needs, positive demeanor, and model change management for the business. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may at times be required to give updates in a meeting with a group of people from many different backgrounds - production, maintenance, management, etc.

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

    Manufacturing plant is not temperature controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas are present inside plant areas. Manufacturing processes involve granules, sand, fiberglass, asphalt coating, crushed rock, and polypropylene. Noise levels exceed 80 dB in some areas of the site. Moving equipment such as fork lifts, buggies, genie booms, industrial sweepers, travel throughout the facility, sometimes in congested areas.
