The Engineering Intern will support the Continuous Improvement Engineer in driving initiatives that enhance safety, sustainability, and operational efficiency at the Russellville Glass Mat Facility. This role provides hands-on experience in a dynamic manufacturing environment, enabling the student to apply engineering principles to real-world challenges while contributing to impactful projects. The position serves as a developmental opportunity with potential for full-time employment upon successful completion and graduation.
Qualifications and Competencies
Full-time student in good academic standing pursuing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering. Prior experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment is preferred but not required. Ability to work in a fast-paced setting utilizing problem-solving, prioritizing, and organizational skills. High level of knowledge and understanding of engineering software and computer programs, especially proficiency in AUTOCAD, MS Project, and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint). Ability to professionally and effectively analyze data, communicate findings, and remain focused in, at times, high-pressure situations. The ability to shift between various tasks and functions while multitasking throughout the workday. Strong oral and written communication, attention to detail, and analytical/data tracking skills.
Plant is not temperature controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas are present inside plant areas. The plant environment is not climate controlled. Manufacturing processes involve granules, sand, fiberglass, asphalt coating, crushed rock, and polypropylene. Noise levels exceed 80 dB in some areas of the site. Moving equipment such as forklifts, buggies, genie booms, and industrial sweepers travel throughout the facility, sometimes in congested areas.
