  • Responsibilities

    Responsibilities including administrative and direct collaboration of Aspire Health Alliance's Jail Diversion Program as part of DMH’s TTAC initiative to improve services and relations and understanding among area police departments in the handling of individuals experiencing a behavioral crisis. The coordinator’s role is to administrate the bridging of mental health services and understanding with law enforcement. The Jail Diversion Coordinator will facilitate strong linkages and direct lines of communication through trainings and collaborations between law enforcement, JDP Co-Responders, and the ESP team. The building of these relationships will promote diversions from arrests and unnecessary emergency room visits and a better understanding by law enforcement of approaches to interventions with people experiencing behavioral health crisis. 

    • MHFA and CIT trainings for PDs as required by our DMH contract
    • Market the Jail Diversion program to area PDs
    • Build the CIT modules for use in Braintree CIT trainings including hiring specialists and scheduling with partners such as; NAMI, Dedham House of Corrections, Learn to Cope, and other agencies to include tours and speakers for the CIT training
    • Manage the budget for the contract
    • Assist area departments to write their grant requests to DMH for both co-responders and backfill monies
    • Schedule, instruct, and update materials for MHFA trainings
    • Orient and support newly hired co-responders
    • Continue area collaborative meetings with PDs and add agencies as collaborations grow with area stake holders
    • Potentially develop unified policies for all co-response programs of Aspire Health Alliance
    • Potential creation of improved means of communication between police and hospital and crisis team
    • Build program to incorporate MHFA to area EMS and Fire
    • Maintain necessary documentation and records in accordance with program requirements

                

                                                                                                                        

     

     

     

     

     

    Required Skills

    • Must possess excellent communication skills, verbal and written
    • Must be willing to become an instructor in Mental Health First Aid, Public Safety and train police officers
    • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to navigate between a clinical mental health environment and law enforcement atmosphere

     

    Required Experience

    • Masters Level Degree
    • Police, forensic, criminal justice, or related experience required
    • Training experience required
    • Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively with diverse systems and running stakeholder meetings
    • Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle required
