  • Responsibilities

    JCCC is searching to fill two Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Information Systems positions. The selected candidates will teach 15 credit hours per semester in Computer Science and Information Systems. Current department needs include teaching courses in information systems and programming. Additional duties expected of full-time faculty include maintaining scheduled office hours; developing and revising curriculum; training faculty in new curriculum as needed; developing and implementing course and program assessment of student learning outcomes; developing  and maintaining  relationships with industry and academic partners; participating in college, division, and department meetings; serving on committees; and other duties as assigned.  Teaching assignments could be any combination of face to face (day or evening), hybrid or online, and are subject to change as needed. On-campus presence is required.

    Required Skills

    • Master's degree or higher in computer science (or sub-field) or computer information systems; or a Master’s degree or higher in any field coupled with 18 graduate hours in computer science (or sub-field) or computer information systems; or a Bachelor’s degree or higher in any field coupled with at least two years of discipline-related work experience (non-teaching) and discipline-related course work at least one level above courses taught
    • Comfortable adopting new technologies and a desire to create/deliver effective online content
    • Understand the importance of adapting to the changing landscape of higher education and the field of technology
    • Demonstrated strong communication skills
    • Commitment to diversity; ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints, collaboration, and teamwork
    • Ability and desire to teach information systems courses such as Introduction to Computer Concepts and Applications and Introduction to Information Systems
    • Ability and desire to teach introductory computer programming courses and concepts using languages such as Java and Python

    PREFERRED SKILLS

    • Ability and desire to teach department courses beyond the introductory level such as Unix scripting, programming (e.g. C#, Java, C++) and data analytics
    • Ability to incorporate evidence-based and inclusive teaching strategies to engage students in their learning

    Required Experience

     Teaching, training or industry experience in computer science, information systems or related field

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

    • Teaching experience in computer science, information systems, or related field at an accredited K-12 or college institution
    • Industry experience in computer science and information systems
    • Experience with learning management systems and online teaching
    • Experience implementing innovative teaching practices, including active learning, project-based, service learning, and other student-centered pedagogies
    • Familiarity with the current landscape of computer science education in K-12 and Higher Education
