The Guitar Tune Tester will be responsible for providing a complete guitar inspection to include trouble shooting and quality for possible mechanical or cosmetic defects. The Tune Tester will also be responsible for the tune testing of various types of guitars in the final stages of the production process and will be required to fully understand product specification to perform necessary modifications. The duration of time spent on tune testing a guitar varies on the type of guitar, complexity of the instrument and hardware that needs to be installed. Depending on the guitar or base stages, the complexity of hardware installed could consist of various types of knobs, metal plates and hardware specific to work orders that accompanies each guitar. The Tune Tester will check for defects in the quality control process while tune testing; will install guitar strings as well as the finishing guard and content of work order packets. The Tune Tester position does require extensive manual skill and use of various hand tools both pneumatic and manual. Upon the completion of hardware being installed on to a guitar or base per work order specifications it is tune tested for sound quality. About the Job: Operations : Thoroughly inspect guitar for finish flaws. Tune and test guitar for playability and intonation and make minor adjustments as needed. Adjustment of truss rod and nut finishing. Level and dress frets. Sand/buff neck finishes and frets. Build control/pick guard assemblies. Advise lead of further corrections and perform manual and visual inspection of assigned work order / components; the lifting, turning, disassembly and rebuilding of a component may be required, this process is repetitive in nature. Tune Tester will be required to review routing packet that accompanies each guitar, verifies and confirms what type of standard work or customize work that needs to be completed on an assigned guitar. Takes inventory of specialty guitar hardware in routing packet and manages documents in routing packet. The Tune Tester will read, assess and troubleshoot as needed, then document any irregularities and take product item off production process. Tune Testers receive work orders from supervisor upon beginning of each work day; as assigned, each employee is responsible for the initial set up of his/her workstation. As needed, employee will pull supplies/miscellaneous components from racks / cabinets located near production tables. Will arrange all needed components within arms- reach and in conjunction with production needs and demands. The Employee holding this position will be required to polish the body and neck of each guitar that is tune tested. Complete all assigned work in an appropriate and timely manner; and perform additional job-related duties as needed and required. What you need: Strong guitar building, woodworking and finishing skills, in addition to a full understanding of raw material specifications. Excellent product knowledge of all models in current and past production. Guitar playing background. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with use of calipers, micrometer, digital multimeter, guitar building hand tools, feeler gauges, soldering equipment, and buffing wheel, Education Requirements: High School Diploma or Equivalent. 1+ years experience Experience: 1-2 years experience and/or training, preferably in production inspection.
