    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (ABET Accredited)
    • 5+ years experience in design and development of new mechanical and electro-mechanical products.
    • Expert knowledge and proficiency in 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred).
    • Skilled in application of fundamental engineering principles involving the calculation of failure analysis using stress, strain, and fatigue.
    • Experienced in designing and releasing products from the concept to launch and support lifecycle phases with clear ability to deliver new concepts.
    • Extensive knowledge of the mechanical properties of a variety of materials including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, rubbers, plastics, and urethanes.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and design mechanical, electrical, electronic, and controls systems.
    • Strong ability to problem solve and troubleshoot the most difficult challenges these types of products, then lead effort to identify and implement corrective actions.
    • Ability to travel 10% of the time

    COMPETENCIES:

    • Sought out by all levels of engineers and management to provide answers to all questions in their area of expertise; expanding proficiency and understanding of technical methods and requirements outside of their core area; actively cross-checks work of peers and junior staff; Acts as a mentor. 
    • Generates detailed drawings without supervision. Expertise in tolerancing, fitments, and clearancing established.
    • Mentors and delegates drawing activities to junior engineers and designers.
    • Able to conduct detailed prediction calculations i.e. stress, strain, fatigue, power consumption, costing, heat transfer, ROI, etc. Ensures best practices are followed during design review.
    • Models behavior of system and determines which technology to use to solve a problem.
    • Customer Understanding
    • Leads interface with internal and external stakeholders to capture needs for design. Tracks design efforts to ensure all stakeholder needs are met. Supports others during difficult customer interfacing.
    • Full design decision responsibility and accountability. Determines appropriate materials, tolerances, heat treat, make/buy decisions, etc. based upon thorough understanding of requirements and design criteria. Prioritizes projects and project activities factoring in technical constraints, stakeholder requirements, and company objectives. Keeps all parties informed as appropriate. Leads FMEA and risk analysis sessions. Assigns RPN and identifies areas for corrective action. Consults and considers input and recommendations from others as appropriate.
    • Testing, Troubleshooting, Prototyping: Able to direct activities to create complex prototypes involving multiple technologies and diverse componentry. Creates test plans and determines validation tests to be implemented. Able to quickly resolve troubleshooting assignments seeking advice on only the most complex situations. Identifies root cause of failures.
    • Reviews test plans of junior personnel. Applies industry standard techniques in prototyping, testing, and problem solving such as STL, Laser sintering, FMEA, DAQ, RCA, etc. Understands critical measurements that need to be taken before, during, and after the experiment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • To develop & design new and improved Light-Duty (LD) and Novitool (NT) products in an efficient and timely manner. Scope to include belt fasteners, application tools, light duty belt conveyor products & accessories, and belt fabrication equipment. 
    • Follow approved product development process to conceptualize, evaluate feasibility, design, and develop new and/or significantly improved products to meet design requirements and features list as prioritized by Marketing and the Engineering Manager. 
    • Develops technology and product concepts through R&D and other market research activities.
    • Assign and prioritize work for technical support personnel—test technician, designers / detailers. Supervises and/or mentors engineering interns.
    • Coordinate with Tool Room to provide direction for, and functional requirements of prototypes, special equipment and tooling designed for LD & NT product lines. 
    • Define and coordinate internal & external (field) testing to understand product requirements and validate & verify new designs.
    • Participate in Continuous Improvement programs, WPO, and suggestion system.
