Job Description The ideal candidate will perform routine daily operational tasks on the Caster and Run Out machines. They will also perform routine daily maintenance, inspections of torches and caster related equipment. The Caster Operator will report into the Routine Facilitator over the Caster. Duties & Responsibilities * Follow work instructions as well as all safety rules and regulations * Visually monitors computer screens in pulpit to gather information about number of billets cuts, billets weights and quality of billets; records data * Monitors the flow of liquid steel * Performs general cleanup and housekeeping of work area. * Assists maintenance with repairs on down days or as necessary. * Assists in training of co-workers as necessary.

    • Communicates to co-workers through two-way radio or hand signals. * Operate computer touch screens to manipulate equipment and products. * Operate a cutting torch. * Completes pre-startup check sheets. * Insures that work area is stocked and that all necessary supplies are in place.
    • Assists in the start-up of additional equipment upstream. The Individual * 1+ years of experience working in a mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial environment performing general labor duties- required * High school diploma or equivalent, required * Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts and overtime on short notice * Ability to climb stairs and ladders, reach, squat, balance, bend from trunk, walk up inclines, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, bend. * Capable of operating a computer, required. * Effective communication is required in order to interact with internal suppliers and internal customers * Ability to use vibration and hand tools, and to operate foot pedals with both feet. * Must have a safety oriented attitude and capable of adhering to safety guidelines set by Gerdau.
