Research And Development Discovery Computational Scientist - Leader Program, Us
R&D Discovery Computational Scientist - Future Leaders Program, US, 2019 Requisition ID: 185644 Position: Graduate Development Programs Open date: Sep 24, 2018 5:33 PM Functional area: Science and Technology Location: Upper Providence, Pennsylvania Required degrees: Phd/Doctorate Experience required: Less than 1 year Relocation: Not Indicated Your Responsibilities : Exciting minds with our Future Leaders Graduate Program Are you a team-focused graduate whos passionate about developing world-renowned medicines? Join us on this new three-year program within Computational Modeling Sciences (CMS), part of Medicinal Science and Technology (MST). MST supports the therapeutic areas within GSK that contribute to the discovery of new medicines. The Computational Modeling Sciences (CMS) is responsible for applying state of the art computational modeling approaches in line with the principle of predict-first to drive the design and development of the best molecules, modalities, and delivery routes engaging the right biological targets, in order to bring safe and effective medicines to patients. This Discovery Computational Scientist role is in the Systems Modeling and Translational Biology (SMTB) department, which uses mathematical modeling and simulation to address the relationships between drug properties, its disposition and the pharmacological and toxicological response to translate from in-vitro and in-vivo preclinical species to humans. This involves the integration and interpretation of data from many sources to help drive project decisions. Working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, the successful candidate will develop, calibrate and use large scale Quantitative Systems Pharmacology/Toxicology models linked with drug pharmacokinetics, linking mechanistic drug disposition with target biology and clinical outcomes for various diseases. This position is an exciting opportunity to make a difference in the lives of patients by applying mechanism-based mathematical modeling, coupled with biological knowledge, to drive drug discovery and development. What to expect on the Future Leaders Program Develop your leadership potential by undertaking 3-6 rotations over 3 years in various departments within GSK to become familiar with all the aspects of computational modeling in drug discovery, from molecular design to systems modeling applied to pharmacology and toxicology. The exact rotations will be highly individualized for successful candidates, aiming to complement candidate skills and match their interests. They can include: Systems Modeling and Translational Biology Molecular Design Computational Toxicology Protein Design and Informatics Mechanistic Safety and Disposition Screening Profiling and Mechanistic Biology Computational Biology These rotations will provide you with the knowledge, technical capability and confidence to be highly successful in the position and beyond. During this time, you will have the opportunity to interact with other graduates for training and networking events. You will undertake a number of core training and personal development courses to quickly bring you up to speed with GSK values and expectations. Responsibilities of a Discovery Computational Scientist: Awareness of a wide variety of modeling approaches, from system-level mechanistic modeling to structure-based design and molecular modeling, and from to machine learning to network modeling Proficiency in at least one modeling approach Awareness of the various in-vitro and in-vivo experimental techniques and assays used in drug discovery and development Responsibility for imbedding a predict first culture by ensuring the most appropriate modeling approach is applied to every program and the best experimental designs are used to validate model predictions and enable best program decisions Developing appropriate models and applying them to impact the progression of drug development programs Peer review modeling work from colleagues as appropriate, insuring high quality standards for the modeling work Building, expanding and refining the modeling capabilities and software platforms Providing consultancy and training resources to embed a predict first culture across R&D Exceptional collaborative behaviors to build and maintain relationships with R&D therapy area scientists, as well as the wider modeling community in GSK Promoting and increasing the reputation of the modeling internally within R&D and externally, including regulatory agencies Why You?
