    THIS POSITION IS BASED OUT OF THE FAIRBANKS MORSE SERVICE CENTER IN HOUSTON.

     Fairbanks Morse, an EnPro Industries company, is looking for a Controls Specialist to join our team. A Controls Specialist (CS) is responsible for installation, commissioning, scheduled and emergency service on products serviced by Fairbanks Morse Engine commensurate with appropriate certification. The CS is expected to be able to take responsibility during the installation, testing, and delivery phases of the controls systems for an FME engine. The CS is required to establish, promote and maintain excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives and others as appropriate. The CS is also required to maintain continuous communication with Region Offices, and direct manager.

     

     

    ROLE

    • Controls Specialist conducts installation, testing, and troubleshooting services for the controls systems on FM engine lines 

    • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

    • Ability to diagnose problems and develop solutions for qualified engines

    • Can work independently on qualified engines

     TECHNICAL

    • Keep current on Engineering Change Orders, Field Service Change Notices and Service Information Letters
    • Keep all personal service manuals up to date with latest revisions
    • Document work performed on Service Reports and write Condition Found Reports

     SAFETY

    • Operate in a safe manner in accordance with published safety guidelines
    • Wear appropriate PPE as per company guidelines and in accordance with job duties
    • Report all work related accidents or injuries within 1 hour to the appropriate personnel
    • Complete annual safety training requirements as outlined on regional safety schedule

     ADMINISTRATION

    Provide accurate and timely reporting according to company guidelines

    Time cards, expense reports, mileage reports, project closure, et al.

    Maintain certification of the Job Description per Job Progression table

    Provide estimated time of arrival to the Customer where applicable

    Maintain company property according to company policies

    • Vehicle, credit cards, PPE, test equipment, laptop, et al.

    PERFORMANCE

    • Complete all work in an efficient and timely manner
    • Conducts self with a high degree of professionalism
    • Ability to manage stressful internal and external customer situations with diplomacy

     

    Required education/experience (High School Diploma or GED, and one or more of the following):

    • Associate Degree in Automotive, Diesel, or related field
    • Six years military experience in a related field
    • 3 years equivalent industry experience with automation

     

    Knowledge of two and four stroke engine operating theory

    Basic understanding of gas compression and associated hazards

    Understanding of electrical systems and associated hazards

    Ability to use electrical test equipment - Multimeters, Pressure calibrators, Signal generators, Process meters

    Must be able to read and interpret mechanical system line diagrams and blueprints

    Must be able to read and interpret electrical line diagrams and blueprints

    Ability to diagnose and repair electrical problems

    Solid foundation of pneumatic, PLC and electronic engine controls preferred, including:

    Electrical circuit diagnosis and meter usage for: VDC, 12VDC, 24VDC, 125VDC, 120VAC, 240VAC, 480VAC, 3 phase

    Allen Bradley PLC (RSLogix 500 and RSLogix 5000) or equivalent systems

    HMI programming (Panelbuilder 32, FactoryTalk View ME) or equivalent systems

    Automation system diagnosis and troubleshooting

    End devices for the following signal type

    • RTDs
    • Thermocouples
    • 4-20mA sensors
    • Relays/Solenoids
    • Magnetic pickups
    • Hall Effect proximity sensors

     

    Related cabling and terminals in automation control panels

    Standby generator and engine operation and maintenance

    Additional skills:

    • Organizational and planning skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
    • Strong mechanical aptitude

    Ability to travel (up to 75%) including weekends, evenings and holidays and in emergency situations travel on short notice

    This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. Therefore, to meet NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship. Acceptable proof of US Citizenship is a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate

    Maintain valid driver’s license and qualify for company credit card
