    JOB SUMMARY: The Maintenance Manager role is responsible for the safety, employee engagement, productivity, quality, and customer service associated with a multi-shift Maintenance operation. He/she is responsible for managing the daily operation of this department, ensuring efficiencies and overall productivity meets or exceeds established standards. Directs and coordinates the day-to-day activities of a team of Maintenance Mechanics by providing leadership and supervision to subordinates and serves as the link between direct reports and middle/upper management. They understand and align business operations and the Department as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

     

    JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

    • Work directly with and manage a team of maintenance mechanics.
    • Ensure achievement of safety goals through developing and supporting a culture of following defined safety procedures, encouraging involvement, following up on safety concerns, and modeling proper safe behaviors. Partner directly with HSE, as needed, to ensure adherence to safety and environmental standards.
    • Ensure desired level of employee engagement within the Maintenance department.  This includes developing and supporting a culture of listening and responding to employee issues, taking decisive actions, recognizing excellent performance, and holding employees accountable for undesirable behaviors.
    • Ensure achievement of quality goals, ensuring employees are properly trained on quality standards, and following proper quality procedures. Partner directly with QA, as needed to ensure adherence to customer quality standards.
    • Ensure achievement of productivity goals by establishing and communicating clear objectives, providing requisite resources to direct reports, engaging the workforce and setting appropriate priorities / monitoring progress.
    • Develop and support a culture focused on continuous improvement, waste reduction and optimal throughput, working closely with Reliability team and with production, warehousing and distribution department management on projects and process improvement opportunities.
    • Develop, implement, improve and manage new and existing predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance programs.
    • Use maintenance disciplines in the development and application of reliability engineering, root-cause analysis and troubleshooting of equipment and processes.
    • Develop, implement and sustain reliability best practices to reduce unscheduled maintenance downtime and costs.
    • Report savings resulting from maintenance excellence initiatives. Develop maintenance benchmarking metrics.
    • Analyze downtime to identify chronic/sporadic failures and lead reliability improvement efforts.
    • Assist in development and execution of overall Maintenance department budget.
    • Effectively communicate both up and down the organization on key issues (e.g. performance reviews, 1-on-1’s, safety meetings, overtime plans, monthly business results, etc.)
    • Evaluate direct report job performance and recommends appropriate personnel action.
    • Administer, communicate and interpret work procedures and company policies.
    • Provides direct reports with guidance in handling difficult or complex problems and in resolving issues or submits unsettled disputes to management.
    • Shares an obligation to protect and strengthen Graphic Packaging International’s good reputation in our relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, competitors, investors, and governmental agencies, and to act consistently with our core values: Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork
    • Trained in HAACP and part of the Product Safety/HAACP team
    • Other duties as assigned

     

    BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

    • Manufacturing experience preferred

    • Experience operating hand jacks, electric pallet jacks and forklifts and clamp trucks preferred

    • Leadership skills – ability to motivate people to perform at high levels

    EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

    • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent required.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology or related field and/or equivalent experience in a converting facility is preferred
    • 7 to 10 years of Maintenance & Electrical repair, PLC fault diagnostics, and mechanical maintenance in a light manufacturing environment
    • Experience and knowledge of roll stock cutting machines, printing presses, die cutting machines, and straight-line gluers is preferred
    • Experience leading preventative/predicative/precision maintenance programs

     

    SKILLS:

    • LANGUAGE SKILLS
      • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
    • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
      • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
    • REASONING ABILITY
      • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
    • MECHANICAL
    • COMPUTER/OFFICE EQUIPMENT SKILLS
      • SAP, MS Office and database programs
      • Requires use of all general office equipment (e.g. fax, copier, telephone, etc.)
    • CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
      • Company issued Fork Truck Operator’s License
      • Company issued Clamp Truck Operator’s License

     

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

     

    SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

    • General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
    • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Lifting up to 20 lbs frequently (11-33% of the time) and lifting 21-60 lbs occasionally (1-10% of the time)
    • Requires use of both feet frequently
    • Requires use of both hands for simple grasping, firm grasping, fine manipulation and repetitive actions continuously
    • Requires right and left hand coordination
    • Ability to stand, climb, walk, kneel and crouch frequently (34-66% of the time)
    • Ability to bend, squat, reach above shoulder and at waist or lower, twist, stretch, push/pull with force up to 45 lbs, carry, grasp with force up to 90 lbs and finger occasionally (1-33% of the time)
    • Ability to read, write, hear, see, speak and have agility on a continuous basis
    • Rarely laying on back to complete preventative and breakdown maintenance to perform mechanical and electrical services to ensure plant operations
    • Pushing (occasionally) horizontal at a self-selected height with a force of 35 lbs indoors on a smooth and inclined surface to complete fabrication of requested items to perform mechanical and electrical services to ensure plant operations
    • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices
    • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment
    • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature and loud noises
    • PPE required: Steel-toed/safety footwear, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection, Cut resistant Safety Gloves, Hair Net, Beard Net
