    International Paper’s HR Internship Program is designed to provide you with a personalized and diversified, on-the-job development experience that offers exposure to our company’s business strategy, culture and full-time HR Development Program. You are considered a part of the HR team at one of our manufacturing facilities within our core businesses. You will work with the local HR team to provide efficient and effective HR service delivery to help drive IP’s business strategy. Your internship will last 10-12 weeks and take place between May and August.  Internship opportunities will be available at our manufacturing locations.

    Key Responsibilities

    The following are general responsibilities of an HR Generalist. Each intern experience is different and your exposure to some items may vary.

    • Serve as a credible safety advocate, demonstrating safety leadership and courage within the facility, while contributing to our overall IP culture.

    • Operate as a business partner acting with line management in instituting work system improvements that positively impact the business and raise employee engagement.

    • Educate members of the organization on job performance, employee development and diversity to encourage work teams who fully contribute to meeting or exceeding business goals. Recruit hourly and salaried employees utilizing Pre-Employment selection processes.

    • Understand company policies, work rules, as well as applicable federal and state regulations, to ensure fair and consistent delivery of human resources products and services and compliance with local labor agreements.

    • Promote and participate in the planning and implementation of communication strategies that deliver accurate, consistent and timely information on business issues and employee concerns.

    • Research and introduce human resources best practice concepts to ensure that the organization is utilizing leading edge human resources technology and proactively considering new strategies.

    • Serve as a champion for change management systems, implement and use change processes to help drive the continued development of an engaged workplace culture.

    • Understand Employee and Labor Relations best practices and strive to make informed decisions, understand labor agreements/employee handbooks and form relationships with unions and local work teams.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without Company sponsorship

    • Must be 18 years old at least three months prior to date of hire 

    • Pursuing your undergraduate or graduate degree Human Resources (or related degree program)

    • Minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA

    • Must have reliable transportation to work and access to a reliable vehicle for travelling to and from work locations

    • Highly motivated, engaged and action-oriented

    • Strong interpersonal skills

    • Ability to learn on the fly
