    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The HSE Coordinator will assist in overall plant health and safety and environmental protection performance and activities. Provide support in functional areas of Human Resources, training, administrative assistant and continuous improvement business units. All areas require knowledge of each department’s operations, policies, discretion and technical skills.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • 25% Ensure adherence of all employees, visitors and contractors to the HSE standards, policies and procedures. Coordinate first aid and CPR training and other required testing.
    • 25% Work with Blankenheim and/or other third party services to confirm appointments are made as needed and ensure cases are handled effectively by communicating all relevant information to the employee and management. Administer first aid as needed and maintain an inventory of all first aid and general safety supplies.
    • 10% Improve safety performance by continuously increasing a level of awareness and improving safety systems to reduce, if not eliminate, incidents and injuries.
    • 10% Establish and maintain an active Safety Committee. Complete inspections and audits to detect and eliminate unsafe practices and conditions. Follow investigation practices and procedures for all incidents to determine the causes and the corrective actions necessary to prevent recurrences.
    • 10% Maintain accurate recordkeeping data as required by local, state, and federal agencies; provide timely and accurate reports when required. Maintain the Plant SDS records by utilizing a digital database or hardy copy filing systems.
    • 10% Assist in implementing and directing effective emergency response action programs to respond to any event that could result in damage to property, business functions, or harm to employees.
    • 10% Collect and analyze injury data to identify trends and recommend improvements. Maintain data, records and documents in a confidential manner.

    Experience with or working knowledge of safety management systems or programs.

    ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Ensure environmental performance and compliance by maintaining knowledge of Safety and Environmental regulations and compliance reporting.
    • Work collaboratively with corporate, regional and plant staff to recommend, develop and implement policies, procedures and systems that meet/surpass the standards set by relevant legislation and regulation. These include: Help gather and evaluate analytical data and other environmental information to assess site compliance.
    • Maintain and store environmental data, records and documents in a confidential manner. Provide technical expertise and leadership for on-site environmental emergency response situations.

    HUMAN RESOURCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • This person will assist width recruiting, process new hires and conduct new hire orientation sessions and related planning and communications.
    • Responsible for preparing and submitting necessary reporting including, but not limited to, complaint investigations and reporting, AAP reporting, accident reports etc.
    • Maintain and monitor workers compensation cases.
    • Knowledgeable of Benefits Administration including FMLA/STD/LTD administration, tracking and HIPPA compliance.
    • Provide advice on practical day-to-day team based solutions and feedback on teams

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Performs a wide variety of administrative tasks. Duties include documenting standard operation procedures, preparing reports, compiling data for analysis, coordinating activities, investigating and resolving problems, and overseeing special projects.
    • Must have effective interpersonal skills including ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • This position has a dual reporting relationship to the site HSE manager and site HR manager. As such, individual must be able to manage communications effectively with both individuals and work with the regional HSE manager to implement corporate guidelines and utilize best practice transfer.

    QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. __

    • Equivalent 3 years’ experience managing HSE requirements in a manufacturing environment.

    • Preferred HR related experience.

    • Preferred medical or first aid experience.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:   

    • Experience with water, waste and air regulation.

    • Experience with health and safety regulations and programs.

    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.

    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Ear plugs may be required in some areas of the plant. Employees are required to wear safety shoes and safety glasses throughout the plant.
