Array Bioinformatics Scientist Intern US - California - San Diego/en-US/illumina-careers/job/US---California---San-Diego/Array-Bioinformatics-Scientist-Intern_15156-JOB-1/apply Experience the breathtaking pace of genomic innovation through Illuminas iAspire internship program. Our 12-week, global, summer program is filled with opportunities to innovate, collaborate, and invest in yourself.nbsp; Our interns work on relevant projects and programs, right alongside our engineers, scientists and corporate employees. It truly is an opportunity to learn, grow, and become a fully-integrated member of the Illumina community. Microarray is a platform for measuring the hybridization-extension signals as a proxy for determining the sequences and dosages of millions of genomics loci in a DNA sample. To accurately determine the genotypes and copy numbers of a locus, it is critical to understand how different factors, e.g. genome sequence, input DNA amount, primer GC bias, and probe sequences, influence the observed signals. With the scale of data available from our internal arrays, Illumina has a unique opportunity to investigate this question.nbsp; The proposed project explores novel approaches to understand what factors impact the observed intensity values, as well as to accurately predict the intensity values in a sample- and probe- specific manner. The intern would perform research along the direction of integrating internal and public data and develop novel computational approach to improve the informatics workflow critical to downstream analyses. The research activities would include literature review, data retrieval, statistical analysis, machine learning model building, programming, scientific writing and presentation. Qualifications and Requirements: * PhD level student. Preferred majors in computer science, machine learning, statistics, data science, bioinformatics, or related disciplines. * Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment. nbsp;nbsp; nbsp; * Familiarity with supervised/unsupervised learning, statistics, probabilistic modeling, and linear algebra is required * Programming skill in R/MATLAB, Python/Perl, or C#/C++ is required.nbsp; * Experience with genetics (microarray and NGS) and related data analysis is highly desired. Responsibilities: * Development of new machine learning algorithms to optimize product performance * Development of early stage pipelines and novel approaches to genomic data analysis * Present data analysis results in large group settings, and present clear and concise written and oral communications to colleagues This role is located in San Diego, CA.nbsp; Candidates can apply to intern roles through October 31st, at which time they will be removed from posting.nbsp; Please save the job description for all roles to which you applied, in order to reference once the postings are removed. Top candidates will move to our video interviewing platform as first step, in mid-November.nbsp; Those selected for next steps will be contacted for a technical phone interview; the phone interview will be scheduled for early December.nbsp; As the last step, final intern candidates are required to attend an assessment center event at our San Diego or Bay Area offices.nbsp; The evening events will be held January 17th and 24th for San Diego, and January 21st for San Francisco.nbsp; Candidates for San Diego roles will attend only one event in San Diego and will be notified of their assigned assessment date by mid-December.nbsp; Candidates for Bay Area roles will attend the event in San Francisco on January 21st.nbsp; Travel accommodations will be provided for those candidates who do not reside in the city where their assessment event is being held.nbsp; The iAspire program only supports F-1 visa status; no other visa types are eligible.nbsp; F-1 students must have at least 3 months of CPT or OPT eligibility to participate.nbsp;nbsp; For more information on iAspire, please visit www.illumina.com/iaspire.nbsp; EOE/Minorities/Females/Veterans/Disabled Illumina believes that everyone has the ability to make an impact, and we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer committed to providing employment opportunity regardless of sex, race, creed, color, gender, religion, marital status, domestic partner status, age, national origin or ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, sexual orientation, pregnancy, military or veteran status, citizenship status, and genetic information.
