We are looking for an Array Assay Development Intern to join the Array team for the Summer of 2019.nbsp; nbsp;nbsp;In this role, you will support innovative product development and on market product enhancements through the application of scientific principles and detail orientated troubleshooting skills. You will be an active participant within a multi-disciplinary team working to evaluated feasibility of new, and sustaining current, high throughput market leading products for the Array platform offered by Illumina. You will help to develop, optimize and sustain Genotyping assays; as well as customer and manufacturing processes to maintain and expand Illuminas market share in the healthy screening (human and Ag.) and direct to consumer markets. About you: The ideal candidate is team oriented and looking for a fun and challenging position in the field of molecular biology, biochemistry or genomics. nbsp;nbsp;You have proficient lab experience and are comfortable using pipettes, running electrophoretic gels, fluorescent assays and have a basic understanding of automation.nbsp; You have solid understanding of foundational principles of molecular biology and biochemistry; enzymology is a plus. You enjoy being part of a cross-functional and fast paced team; designing and executing experiments and data analysis and owning small contained projects.nbsp; nbsp;You have a positive attitude, great social and organizational skills and consider yourself a fast learner and also a self-starter. nbsp;You are a master of creating clear and concise presentations that can be delivered to audiences of varying technical backgrounds. About the role: Working in one of Illuminas fastest growing divisions; you will be trained on Illuminas Genotyping nbsp;Array portfolio and mentored throughout the summer to ensure you have an understanding of industrial scientific processes and tools used for commercial genomics. The timing of this internship coincides with final development, validation, and initiation of monitoring of design changes to an existing product, as well as characterization of a new product.nbsp; This will provide the candidate with a crash course of the full life cycle of the industrial product development process.nbsp;Main activities of this internship involve the participation in development and validation efforts to implement modifications to critical array materials/processes for the Infinium product line that supports healthy human screening, direct to consumer and Agri-genomics.nbsp;nbsp; The candidate will be responsible for independently executing experiments, including primary analysis of data generated and related activities like experiment and sample tracking. The person hire in this role will also participate in larger scale analyses including identification of correlations between characterization/analytical studies and functional biochemical results; and depending on their skill set, interpretation of computational model systems. The candidate will contribute to experimental design and present results in meeting settings. Role duties include but are not limited to:nbsp; * Build a fundamental understanding of reagent formulations and physical / biochemical relationship to assay performance for Illuminas current and future Array based assays * With minimal oversight design, conduct, analyze, and present experiments * Work with cross-disciplinary teams to optimize assay conditions and manufacturing / QC processes to achieve commercial levels of stability, robustness, and performance. * Reduce scalability and robustness risks in production of Illuminas Genotyping Array reagents * Support root cause determination, containment and corrective action verification and implementation within expected timeframes. * Support development of biochemical / analytical tools to QC critical components and finished goods. * Evaluate feasibility of novel biochemical approaches to solve evolving market needs in the field of healthy screening (human and Ag.) and direct to consumer markets. * Be able to successfully work cross functionally with both internal and external, Scientists, RAs, Engineers, Bioinformaticians, SW and commercial personnel with different skills sets and approaches to troubleshooting/ product design, to implement robust and scalable solutions for production, QCnbsp; and use of reagents supporting the Illumina Array workflows * Analyze large complex data sets. * Write reports and present results and project assessments to project management. * Perform other duties as assigned. Qualification and Experience * Second Year Masters or PhD Student in in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genomics, Biomedical Engineering, or related. Strong understanding of DNA molecular biology. Extensive hands-on bench experience in an academic or industrial molecular biology wet lab is essential. * Experienced in molecular biology methods for nucleic acid analysis and manipulation including purification, amplification, labeling, hybridization, etc. * Experience with rational / hypothesis based experimental design and data analysis * Proven ability to think innovatively toward solving technical and process driven problems in an effectively, robustly and efficiently fashion. * Demonstrated capability to think outside the box, question the norms, ask why and if there is a better way * Ability to rapidly grasp concepts and pick up novel processes/workflows quickly via on the job training and pivot to independently execute these with high levels of detail and integrity in the fields of new biochemical, bio-physical scientific concepts and robotic processing * Documented evidence of self-motivation and initiative, highlighting the ability to be analytical, detail-oriented, organized. * Collaborative, open and self-aware, team player; able to able to rapidly integrate into cross functional teams to drive progress towards project goals. * Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills. * Experience with various analysis tools for arrays and or next-generation sequencing analysis highly desirable. * Demonstrated capability to work in a faced paced environment where strong time management skills are key to successful expectation of multiple deliverables in parallel This role is located in San Diego, CA.nbsp; Candidates can apply to intern roles through October 31st, at which time they will be removed from posting.nbsp; Please save the job description for all roles to which you applied, in order to reference once the postings are removed.
