Join Illuminas Product Development team this summer and play an important role in the design and development of cutting-edge next generation sequencing and analysis platforms to unlock the power of the genome to transform healthcare and beyond. As an Illumina Software Systems Analyst Intern, you will be part of an innovative, dynamic, and adaptive organization. You will be analyzing control software designs for existing Illumina RUO and Dx sequencing platforms, and defining a unified and comprehensive set of software design requirements, guidelines, and best-practices towards making the design Dx/IVD compatible. This will involve collaborating with internal/external stakeholders to understand their needs, and transforming operational/business/user needs into software system requirements. This role partners with marketing, system architects, software/firmware development, system integration, bioinformatics, test teams, manufacturing, and customer solutions/support teams towards generating software designs for Illuminas Next Generation Sequencing platforms and associated analytical software. This role focuses on software systems engineering (design, architecture aspects), and does not involve hands-on software programming (though programming experience is a plus). Responsibilities * Research, analyze and design complex information systems and technology solutions in support of user/business needs * Analyze existing systems/solutions to drive system design improvements * Coordinate across multi-disciplinary teams to transform user needs into a strong product concept, with a complete description of software system requirements * Create wireframes, high-quality workflow and process-flow diagrams, and other visualizations to communicate technical concepts and product architecture * Write detailed software requirement specifications and document software designs * Work in a collaborative team environment; accurately and fully describe user needs to UX, software/firmware development, bioinformatics and testing team members * Provide technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing solutions that are cost effective and meet user/business needs. Education/Skills/Experience: * Rising junior/senior or graduating senior pursuing a Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics or related engineering/scientific discipline. * Ability to integrate and distill technical information from different sources into a design plan that will produce high quality software solution that meets user/product needs * Strong nbsp;expertise, interest, and experience (industry/academic-projects) with design/development/testing/support of technical/scientific software/firmware applications * Strong written/verbal communication and presentation skills, for both technical and non-technical audience * Ability to multi-task, work proactively, stay organized, and incorporate feedback in a fast-paced environment * Understanding of FDA, ISO, IEEE and other medical device industry standards/regulations applicable to software development, desired * Experience with Next Generation Sequencing and data analysis, and its applications in science and health care, a plus * Experience with prototyping tools (e.g. Balsamiq, Axure, Microsoft Expression Blend/Sketch Flow), a plus * Experience with enterprise process management tools (Jama, Jira, Confluence), a plus This role is located in San Diego, CA.nbsp; Candidates can apply to intern roles through October 31st, at which time they will be removed from posting.nbsp; Please save the job description for all roles to which you applied, in order to reference once the postings are removed.
