  • Responsibilities

    This position is responsible for the optimization of the plant’s processes and systems. The Industrial Engineer (IE) will eliminate waste of time, money, materials, man-hours, machine time, energy and other resources that do not generate value.

    The IE improves operational efficiencies and delivers savings which improve our profitability, market position, and competitiveness. The IE will help influence the strategy for the plant/DC by identifying projects and implementing solutions which will result in a new level of sustained, operational effectiveness.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following.

    *Other duties may be assigned.

    • 25% : Executes optimization strategies by translating business objectives into projects to improve inventory, productivity, scrap/defect etc.

    • 25% : Supports creating and implementing local Lean and Six Sigma methodologies and tactics at the manufacturing and distribution facility level.

    • 10% : Create standards and transfer best practices throughout Gates facilities.

    • 25% : Assist in the design of work standards, quality control charts and systems and other elements of operational excellence to aid plant improvement.

    • 15% : Help establish meaningful plant metrics which monitor performance at a level sufficient to illustrate the true root cause of problems.

  • Qualifications
    • Degree in Industrial Engineering required.
    • At least 1 years of specific problem solving experience and progressive responsibility in leading improvement initiatives.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and implement projects through continuous improvement initiatives with hands-on application - engaging floor practitioner.
    • Experience in implementing Lean systems at the plant level (e.g..Quick Change Over, Total Productive Maintenance, 5S, Kaizen events, level scheduling, KanBan systems, and Value Stream Mapping).
    • Experience as a Lean and/or Six Sigma trainer is desirable.

    • Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Demonstrate ability to drive and report metrics.
    • Must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Must be proficient in 2D layout design using CAD.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
