    Division/Department Information

    The Department of Chemistry at the Queens campus of St. John's University, located in New York City, is seeking applicants for a one-year full-time assistant professor with a possibility of renewal. We are specifically looking for a chemist with expertise in organic chemistry and possible general chemistry.

    While the primary focus is on the undergraduate program, the Department of Chemistry offers both B.S. and M.S. degrees. We have twelve tenured/tenure track faculty members all of whom maintain active research and scholarly activities. The department graduates about twenty ACS-certified B.S. chemistry majors and five M.S. students per year. There is an active ACS-Student Chapter and seminar program with weekly meetings. The department is well equipped with modern instrumentation, including a 400 MHz NMR, ICP, GC-MS, GC-FID, UV-vis, fluorescence, LC-MS, HPLC, and FTIR instruments.     Responsibilities

    The Department of Chemistry is seeking an Assistant Professor for a one-year contract with the possibility of renewal. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for teaching first- and second-year courses in organic and possibly general chemistry.

    The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching chemistry at the undergraduate level. Candidates with experience in teaching diverse learners and who have demonstrated anti-racism and inclusivity in their pedagogy or pedagogical plans are especially encouraged to apply.

    Qualifications

    Applicants should have a Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related discipline. The candidate will have an ability to teach and develop courses in their area of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate level. A successful applicant will support our vision that academic excellence requires a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Demonstrated excellence in teaching chemistry is encouraged.

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual/hourly salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000.
