    JOB DESCRIPTION 

    Provide basic assistance as needed to assist printing press operators with make-ready of flexo or litho printing presses for operation.  Assist with retrieving plates, hanging plates and recycling/storing plates and other tasks associated with make-ready of the plates. Ensure paper or raw materials (inks, glues, etc.) are loaded into feeders, hoppers, bins, etc. to supply a constant flow of materials while the equipment is running.  Make adjustments to equipment such as feeder mechanism based on the size of the paper.  Deliver equipment components such as plates or spray heads to the equipment for installation.  Recycle old/discarded plates.  Drive forklift truck equipped with lifting devices such as forklift, fork-grapple, clamps, elevating platform, or trailer hitch, to push, pull, lift, stack, tier, or move materials in warehouse or factory. 

     

    Requires basic knowledge of presswork procedures and materials learned through on the job training.  Ability to follow instructions to assist in press set up, operation and maintenance.  Able to operate hand carts, pallet jacks, stackers and hydraulic feed mechanisms.  Preferred skills in handling controls for starting, stopping, backings, and driving fork lift or clamp truck through aisles in building; and, for lifting, lowering, and tilting forks by moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate controls. OTJ training provided and certification required.

      

    ATTENDANCE:  Punctual, regular attendance is an essential job function of employment with RR Donnelley. Overtime, including weekend work, is considered a condition of employment. Flexibility to work any shift is required.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

    • Must be able to lift, pull and push 50 pounds occasionally.
    • Must be able to bend, reach and turn frequently.
    • Must be able to stand and move about the facility constantly. 
    • Two-handed operation required to operate STOP/Safe; must have good eye/hand coordination.
    • Ability to distinguish color variation.
    • Ability to safely operate stand-up and sit down forklifts.
    • Required personal protective equipment consists of safety-toe shoes or boots and hearing protection constantly, safety shield/glasses, frequently.

    Required Skills

Able to communicate effectively in writing using proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.

     

    Ability to operate a computer at a basic to intermediate level.

    Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.

    Ability to operate stand-up and sit down forklifts.

    Required Experience

    6-24 months previous experience in an industrial manufacturing environment or work in a printing environment. Flexo and/or Litho experience a plus.

    Some experience in the operation of various hand tools including line gauge, loupe, plate wrench, blanket wrench, brush gauge, ink knife, chisel and punch.

    Some experience in the operation of hoist/lift trucks.  Current certification preferred.
