    Job Summary:

    St. John's University School of Law is seeking a candidate for the position of Associate Director of Career Development and Diversity Initiatives. The Career Development Office at St. John's provides proactive, individualized, and student-centered placement services to J.D. and LL.M. students and alumni. Professional staff members are assigned a mix of 1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls, and recent graduates.

    Essential Functions:

    • Lead efforts to improve the career outcomes of students from marginalized and underrecognized communities.

    • Collaborate with the Law School's Associate Dean for Career Development and Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to create an inclusive environment, to encourage valuing of persons from diverse backgrounds, and to promote a law school atmosphere that assures equitable treatment for all persons.

    • Serve as an integral member of the Dean’s Advisory Council on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

    • Manage diversity-related employment programs, including collecting information on advertising and executing programs as well as developing and administering events.

    • Oversee and administer all aspects of diversity fellowship applications, including the New York City Bar Diversity Fellowship Program. This includes staying abreast of new opportunities, advertising them to students generally and individually, meeting with students, encouraging applications, creating a fellowship information panel and a personal statement workshop, reviewing application materials, choosing and serving on selection committees, preparing students for interviews, tracking results, and keeping detailed records.

    • Lead the development of employment opportunities for students from marginalized and underrecognized communities.

      • Serve as integral member of the Employer Outreach Team to grow and generate employment opportunities for those students.
      • Build relationships with employers, alumni, law firm and other organization diversity directors.
    • Develop strong professional relationships to engage affinity and shared identity group members, including attending general body meetings and collaborating on events and panels.

    • Manage caseload of assigned students.

      • Help assigned students discover their areas of interest and obtain summer and permanent employment positions that meet students' goals.
      • Recognize the interrelationship between academic advising, the curriculum, externships, and clinics, and members of the Career Development Office
      • Liaise with faculty, alumni, and administrators regularly.
    • Facilitate student success. Meet with students regularly, communicating opportunities and advice in-person, by phone, video conference, and e-mail. Assist students with job search strategies, application documents, interview skills and their professional development.

    • Develop programs, services, and materials that will assist students and alumni in developing effective job search strategies.

    • Record, update, and report on data to track students' and graduates' employment outcomes success.

    • Other duties as assigned

    Competencies

    • Superior interpersonal, communication, organizational, writing, and administrative skills; knowledge of the legal profession.

    • Law practice experience required.

    • Significant DEI experience required, such as DEI initiatives or program administration, event planning, training, or advising marginalized and underrecognized communities.

    • Career counseling or experience working with students required.

    • 7-10 years' professional experience required.

    • A Juris Doctor degree is required.

    • Legal recruiting experience preferred.

    • Knowledge of varied technology, including Symplicity preferred.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    This position manages administrative projects and processes including diversity-related employer outreach, employment opportunities, fellowship programs and event development.

    Work Environment

    This position operates in a professional office environment. Attendance at student and alumni events, both on- and off-site, is required sometimes.

    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; move about; sit; to carry work and use controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; communicate.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Start and end times to be established by Associate Dean. Evening and weekend events are required sometimes.

    Travel

    Travel is primarily local. Attendance at out-of-state conferences or events may be required sometimes.

    Required Education and Experience:

    • Superior interpersonal, communication, organizational, writing, and administrative skills; knowledge of the legal profession.
    • Law practice experience required.

    • Career counseling or experience working with students required.

    In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $82,500 - $92,900. St. John’s University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

    This position may be relocated to any of St. John’s University’s physical locations at any time.

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting or role with 5-7 years of relevant work experience OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience.
    • Minimum 3 - 5 years of financial analysis and/or strategic project management experience within IR or M&A or Corporate Finance department or financial, planning and analysis (FP&A) experience 
    • Ability to interact with all levels of management and external investment bankers
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a high level of written communications proficiency
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities with attention to detail and an ability to work independently
    • Thorough understanding of company financial statements
    • Strong technical and analytical skills
    • Proven ability to respond within short time constraints and meet deadlines, while maintaining accuracy
