Essential Functions & Duties
Guest Focus:
Creates and maintains an environment of hospitality and excellence in execution and is seen as the "Guest Hospitality Champion and role model" for the BP Team.
Effectively resolves guest concerns or complaints and recognizes, assesses, and implements opportunities to improve the guest experience.
Effectively trains the BP Crew Members, FOH Leads, & BP Shift Managers on the methods used to seek out and resolve guest concerns or issues proactively.
Ensures Brewpub Crew Members focus on building guest relationships & generating repeat visits.
Uses resources like YELP, Shoppers, Guest Feedback, and Corporate feedback to ensure the highest level of guest engagement and satisfaction.
Leadership:
Leads by example demonstrating a commitment to exemplifying a positive, authentic, and professional image towards fellow crew members, guests, vendors, clients, and other potential agents of Karl Strauss Brewing Company.
Builds BP Crew Member morale by treating people with Respect, Positive Coaching, Public Praise/Private Redirection, and demonstrates that we all Learn, Improve, & Grow.
Effectively interviews and conducts a thorough "Reference Check" on all applicants to ensure the best possible new BP Crew Member is hired.
Once hired, the GM conducts a thorough "On-Boarding" of the new BP Crew Member to introduce them to our Karl Strauss History, Policies & Procedures of the company, and the expectation of the Brewpub.
Adheres to the company-established training programs, only graduating a new BP Crew Members upon satisfactory completion of the program.
Educates the BP Crew Members by conducting daily "Pre-Shifts & Be-Prepared Meetings." Trains all BP Shift Managers & Leads on how to effectively hold daily BP Crew Member Meetings when the GM is unavailable to do so.
Quality of Operations:
Conducts and leads Monthly BP Leadership Meetings with Chef & BP Shift Managers addressing areas of concern, needed improvement, reward, and recognition.
The GM is accountable for the entire Brewpub; it is critical that the GM establishes and maintains a good working relationship with the Brewpub Chef to ensure a "One Team" approach to managing the FOH & HOH.
Conducts BP Crew Member Ranking. Using this information to coach and develop his/her BP Crew Members. Always recognizing and rewarding great performers, setting expectations for under-performers, and ultimately coaching under-performing BP Crew Members up or out.
Ensures a "Safe Work Environment" by having zero-tolerance for poor performers, negative attitudes, non-team players, workplace harassment, or violence. All concerns, no matter how significant it may seem, need to be communicated to the District Manager and Human Resources.
Provides a safe working environment for BP Crew Members by managing his/her facility and ensuring all equipment is in proper working condition. The GM should conduct quarterly "Clean & Safe Audit following up with repair and maintenance companies.
Provides a Food Safe Environment but ensuring that all Food Safety Guidelines are followed. The GM should complete and follow up on all Food Safety Line Checks to ensure that Chef & Leads understand the importance of recognizing potential food safety concerns and take the proper corrective action.
General Manager creates and fosters a productive relationship with all vendors, property managers, Health Department, and Community Partners.
Financial Results:
The General Manager is accountable for the Brewpub's overall financial results. Working with the District Manager, GM will implement financial strategies and processes to maximize bottom-line results.
COGS-Establishes guidelines for product ordering, receiving, and handling, thereby reducing the risk of theft/shrinkage/waste. Costs must be in line with theoretical or approved trends.
Labor/SPLH-GM manages sales projections, staffing levels, and in/out times. They are responsible for achieving the desired results set by the District Manager.
Approves, codes, and forwards all invoices utilizing the chart of accounts and company established procedures.
Conducts Month End Inventory and maintains and reconciles month-end reports and inventories.
Reviews the P&L Statement with the District Manager to identify opportunities for improving the financial result.
Follows company established procedures for accepting and handling all cash, credit card, and non-cash payments (i.e., trade scrip, discount coupons, promotion & administrative expenses, etc.).
Manages BP Payroll, which includes daily punches, time card accuracy, tip share tracking, and allocation and the completion of Monday Morning Payroll. Payroll cannot be delegated without DM approval because of a vacation or PTO request.
Company Systems, Procedures, and Policies:
Maintains and implements operational systems, policies, and procedures for his/her assigned location as needed.
Utilizes and trains Chef & BP Shift Managers on proper utilization of all company established forms, binders, and checklists.
Ensures BP Crew Members' understanding of the corporate safety program and disseminates monthly safety information.
Implements corrective measures to remove/reduce the risk of theft and robbery.
Demonstrates an understanding of, adheres to, and trains BP Shift Manager & Leads on Federal, State, and local regulations and required postings.
Facilitates and supports the company's marketing programs and directives.
Adheres to and promotes company established employee benefits programs.
Practices excellent time-management, ensuring all deadlines are met—this includes requests for information, documentation, and company program implementation.
Maintains all BP Crew Members employee files; this includes Policies & Procedures, Documentation, Rankings, and I-9's. Maintaining HIPPA compliance by ensuring all Doctor's notes are kept in a separate file and not in the employee file.
Manages the Aloha system as needed to update pricing information and Aloha & ADP for BP Crew Member personnel information.
Appropriately manages all BP Crew Members terminations, voluntary or involuntary. Processes all resignation forms, requests for termination, and CPL's according to the Companies P&P's.
Works collaboratively with the Human Resources Department and the District Manager to conduct employee investigations, terminations, and coaching and counseling sessions.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
5-6 years of progressive brewpub management experience within a full service, high volume, corporate, or multi-unit environment.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent. The emphasis in Hospitality/Brewpub Management preferred.
Professional verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel applications. Experience with Aloha POS operating system and GAAP practices preferred.
Previous kitchen experience preferred.
Must be able to work in a high-volume, fast-paced setting, to prioritize work assignments, and managing multiple projects at one time.
