Position Details:
- Title: Environmental Health and Safety Specialist
- Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate for this role will have at least 2 years of relevant safety/environmental experience in a manufacturing/distribution environment.
- Schedule: 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, M-F. *This position is ONSITE in an industrial setting.

** Position Overview**
The EH&S Specialist will provide mid-level support on various environmental, health and safety projects and responsibilities. This individual will be an active, decisive team member working to prevent injury/illness by proactively managing risk and promoting a culture that expects and supports a safe, healthy workplace. This position requires an environmental, safety or chemical background, hard work, dedication, and the motivation to learn.
** Essential Functions**
- Promote a strong safety culture for Keystone employees and outside contractors by following and reinforcing standard safety procedures.
- Provides guidance to management and employees in areas of Safety Compliance.
- Supports the development, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of Environmental. Health and Safety programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the development of EHS training and technical documentation regarding EHS procedures.
- Coordinate safety-training requirements for employees and outside contractors.
- Ensure proper documentation of training.
- Execute training and answer/research questions from participants.
- Partner with managers regarding training needs.
- Review and revise safety related Standard Operating Procedures.
- Contribute to SDS (Safety Data Sheet) Improvement and Management.
- Responsible for all waste management practices to ensure proper facility handling, including proper identification of waste streams, storage, disposal, waste manifest documentation and other associated duties.
- Uses expertise and discretion to handle/identify non-routine issues including the method of addressing the issue. May train peers on standard procedures.
- Perform periodic Health and Safety audits/inspections to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
- Uses expertise and discretion to handle/identify non-routine issues. May be project lead (accountable) for at least one type of audit.
- Perform environmental monitoring including air testing and periodic audible testing, monthly or as needed. May be project lead (accountable) for all types of testing. Can handle non-routine issues.
- On occasion, work with hazardous chemicals and waste. Adheres to all protocols to execute duties. Supervision is not required.
- Responsible for internal emergency response regarding spills and evacuations; use independent judgment to assess the situation to perform or assign additional tasks.
- Support spill containment, cleanup, and reporting requirements in conjunction with operations and EH&S team.
- Track and analyze EHS performance data (injury rates, incident reporting, etc.) and contribute to team for process improvement.
- Identify safety and health hazards associated with business activities. Establish guidelines for protections of those hazards.
- Inspect facilities, work environments, machinery, and equipment to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where needed and follow-up to ensure measures have been implemented in conformance with company policy and governmental standards.
- Hazardous waste coordination.
- Provide PPE to employees as needed.
- Participate in risk assessments and update records as needed.
- Support future EHS initiatives (toolbox talks/training/posters/visitor programs).
- Perform research as requested.
- Provides administrative assistance to personnel and performs light office duties as needed.
- Other duties/tasks as needed/requested by Manager.
** Qualifications**
- 2 years' experience in a safety, industrial health, or environmental compliance role, with excellent knowledge of OSHA and occupational safety.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
- Understanding of OSHA, EPA, NJDEP, BATF, DOT, CAA, RTK regulations and reporting requirements. Fully trained in all qualifications. Responsible for determining and completing ongoing training to keep up with certifications and industry trends.
- Knowledge of chemical properties, associated hazards, proper labeling and storage requirements.
- Familiar with SDS sheets and their requirements.
- Knowledge of hazardous materials, emergency response actions, including spill containment, cleanup and reporting requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills-ability to interface and communicate/collaborate at all levels internally and externally.
- Ability in navigating ambiguous situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills – ability to communicate a clear vision to promote and foster a culture of safety.
- Leads by example – engages and inspires employees to want to work safely and genuinely care about their and co-workers well being

** Education**
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or other scientific discipline or relevant work experience in the hazard material regulatory or safety field.
