    ABOUT THE ROLE:

    This position assists the CD/IZ Program Coordinator in ensuring that all aspects of the agency’s Immunization (IZ) program are implemented effectively. This position is responsible for managing and procuring vaccine supply; assisting in vaccine accounting; managing vaccine storage and handling, evaluating immunization workflow; and developing immunization improvements for the Lake County Health Department Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and acting as the liaison between the FQHC and Prevention. Additionally, this position may involve the management of grants and their deliverables and outreach/education to the community. This position reports to the CD/IZ Program Coordinator.

    LOCATION: 3010 GRAND AVE, WAUKEGAN, IL 

    HOURS: 40 HOURS A WEEK; MONDAY-FRIDAY (8:30AM-4:30PM)

    FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

     

    SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Assists agency designated Vaccine for Children (VFC) coordinators in counting vaccines at assigned FQHC sites.
    • Completes, assists, validates, and/or trains staff on vaccine inventory/accounting for assigned FQHC sites; enters inventory and corrects errors in NextGen (the current agency Electronic Health Record) and I-CARE.
    • With oversight from the CD/IZ Program Coordinator, monitors, trouble-shoots, and resolves issues regarding quality control of vaccine storage (i.e., temperature excursions and installation of data loggers) and vaccine storage unit function.
    • Carries on-call pager for vaccine quality control and appropriately resolves and/or escalates issues.
    • Orders VFC, Child Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and private stock vaccines to maintain supply for the agency; and arranges for VFC paybacks if indicated.
    • Assures back-up vaccine depot is stocked and rotated.
    • Determines appropriateness of vaccine transfers between FQHC sites and tracks vaccine transfers in order to maintain appropriate inventory levels at each site.
    • Develops and works to improve immunization community outreach and education.
    • Utilizes education, skills, and knowledge of immunizations to train and/or develop educational materials related to immunization practices for new hires, nurses, and medical assistants.
    • Develops and implements employee influenza, emergency, and supplemental vaccination campaigns. This includes scheduling events, ordering vaccines, and reporting pertinent information.
    • With oversight of Medical Epidemiologist, develops the proposal for the flu vaccine formulary annually.
    • With oversight and approval of Medical Epidemiologist, develops and/or updates vaccine standing orders for Immunization flex nurses.
    • Audits immunization practices of providers to identify errors or deficiencies and educates/trains staff.
    • JOB SKILL ASSESSMENT(S) MAY BE REQUIRED FOR THIS ROLE.

     

     

    EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, AND CERTIFICATION:

    • Requires a Master's degree or Bachelor's degree in public health, nursing or healthcare related field.
    • With Bachelors or Master's degree, 1-5 years’ experience preferably in a public health or health care clinical setting with a minimum of 6 months program management or supervisory experience.
    • Illinois licensure as a registered professional nurse or Illinois licensure by reciprocity within six months of the initial date of employment or at least Master’s level in Public Health or healthcare-related field.
    • Valid certification in CPR of adults, children, and infants.
    • Requires access to privately owned vehicle during working hours with record maintenance of mileage or use of company car.
    • Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance.
    • Requires ability to work on evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
