LAB TECHNICIAN- CLINICAL LABORATORY

In response to the vibrant research community and the needs of the community ST. John's University is opening a Clinical Venture Laboratory. This collaborative venture brings industries partners together with the Universities top research professionals, translating research into novel clinical testing. In response to COVID-19 the SJU Clinical Lab will initially deploy a number of SARS-CoV-2 tests.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Clinical Laboratory Lab Director, performs clinical testing in laboratory areas where he/she is fully trained and in compliance with Federal, NYSDOH, CAP and TJC standards.
Complies with all laboratory procedures and obtains or receives laboratory specimens which include saliva, blood, urine and body fluids; performs clinical laboratory tests, and obtains data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Understands the principles of and competently performs a variety of techniques in both manual and automated testing; follows SJU laboratory established policy and procedure guidelines.
Works independently, organizing work to meet established deadlines; records and files all data obtained.
Ascertains that specimens are acceptable and suitable for culture and susceptibility testing.
Ensures that blood specimens received for enzyme immunoassay (EIA) and molecular testing are properly handled and are suitable for testing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Valid license as a clinical laboratory technologist issued by the NYSED
Successful completion of a full course of study, which meets all academic requirements for a bachelor's degree in medical technology from an accredited institution; or
Successful completion of a minimum of ninety (90) semester hours in an accredited institution and successful completion of a course of training of at least twelve (12) months in an accredited school of medical technology; or
Successful completion at an accredited institution of a course of study which meets all academic requirements for a bachelor's degree in one (1) of the chemical, physical or biological sciences, and in addition, at least one (1) year of experience and/or relevant training; or
Successful completion of ninety (90) semester hours towards a bachelor's degree in an accredited institution, including sixteen (16) semester hours in chemistry courses acceptable for a major in chemistry, six (6) of which are in inorganic chemistry; sixteen (16) hours in biology courses acceptable for a major in biology and pertinent to the medical sciences; and three (3) semester hours in mathematics and, in addition, at least one (1) year of experience and/or training. The chemistry and biology courses shall include both laboratory and lecture; survey courses are not acceptable.

Required Skills Required Experience
Ideal candidate will have a Bachelors degree in Business, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related field with 7-10 years of experience within industrial Human Resources OR demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience within the Human Resource field. A Minimum of 3 years of Supervisory experience within Human Resources with at least 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Applies excellent functional knowledge in utilizing Microsoft Windows, MAC, or other technical tools. Effectively leads and mentors assigned team members as well as local supervisors/managers on elements of effective Human Resources and effective employee management. Working knowledge in all areas pertinent to the management of all HR functions including compensation, staffing, employee involvement, EEO/AAP, safety training and policy development. Current knowledge of all federal, state, and local regulations as it pertains to HR. Must have effective counseling skills in areas of performance and behavioral problems, conflict resolution and career development. Ability to communicate with all levels of employees effectively. Consistently contributes effort, leadership, and creative thinking to solving complex and significant problems in a collaborative fashion. Effectively represents department, division, or company at meetings. Assumes significant role on committees, projects, etc.
