  • Responsibilities

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The commodity manager is responsible for sourcing all direct materials as assigned in a specific commodity, ensuring product quality, delivery, and cost (landed).

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Develop short term and long term commodity strategy and build a solid operating mechanism to lead various initiatives out of the strategy
    • Use spend data to support strategy
    • Create opportunities for cross region or global sub-commodities
    • Develop and lead performance dashboards
    • Communicate to suppliers Invacare’s quality requirements and expectations
    • Monitor vendors for process and material changes on a continuous basis
    • Audit vendors on a regular basis along with supplier quality
    • Administer, follow up, and verify all required corrective actions for quality & delivery improvement
    • Factor in true landed cost (TCO), accounting for transportation, quality inspection, packaging, etc.
    • Negotiate aggressively as well as ethically
    • Source aggressively in low-cost regions when it makes good business sense
    • Keep current on key market indicators and commodities pricing
    • Develop a second source for ‘A’ and ‘B’ items to ensure a position of leverage
    • Develop strategic suppliers and eliminate high-risk, low-volume suppliers
    • Manage Enterprise Risk by reducing dependency on complex supply chain and single/sole source. Drive supplier rationalization and supplier financial risk management.
    • Activity participates in Make vs. Buy sourcing decision and in manufacturing transfer.
    • Implement Kanban system on all ‘A’ and ‘B’ items. Work with suppliers to ensure that they understand the concept fully and accurately
    • Move ‘C’ items toward vendor managed inventory or two-bin system
    • Follow up on late shipments and require corrective action immediately
    • Implement and maintain visual parts management system on the production floor
    • Control and justify lot sizes
    • Provide reliable forecast with updates as data change working with planning team
    • Communicate any special sales incentives that may affect forecast accuracy
    • Communicate, coordinate, and lead product changes effectively
    • Ensure complete and reliable data accuracy
    • Lead quarterly business reviews with suppliers along with Invacare cross functional team
    • Engage supplier in capacity planning and strategic new business development opportunities
    • Ensure that all required training is identified for and completed by all direct reports
    • Develop a team environment that values diversity and uses various individual’s strengths to the benefit of the team
    • Exhibit positivity, flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.

     

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree required; Engineering or degree in related field preferred
    • MBA preferred
    • Certifications: Preferred CPM, CIRM, CPIM.
    • Affiliations: Preferred NAPM / ISM, APICS.
    • Proficiencies: MS Excel, Word & Power Point, Access.
    • Experience: Minimum Eight (8) years in global industrial purchasing and supply including with five (5) years in a strategic procurement leadership position.

  • Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND ATTRIBUTES:

    • An understanding of the requirements of ISO 13485:2016 and/or 21CFR 820 highly desirable.
    • Three or more years exposure to quality control preferably in a manufacturing or assemble environment.
    • Knowledge and implementation of H&S management systems and employee programs with experience developing staff engagement levels.
    • Knowledge, skills and experience of occupational health and safety requirements.

     

    KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI’S):

    • 100 percent compliance with ISO, internal, and contract specific quality standards.
    • Internal audit outcomes identify no quality control process deficiencies.
    • Zero harm to staff: no avoidable accidents.
    • All incidents, near misses, and injuries, recorded and investigated (where necessary) to enable continual improvement of site safety standards.
    • All employee safety inductions completed and recorded on the first day of employment.
    • Individual team meetings (toolbox or similar) are conducted at least weekly and recorded in terms of Invacare H&S policy.
    • Invacare work site remains 100 percent smoke-free with EAP and public smoke free resource available to assist employees with smoking cessation advice and support.
