    We are seeking a motivated, results-oriented college student to join our Indianapolis, IN team for the summer of 2022. The Carrier internship experience offers interns an environment that provides practical, challenging, and meaningful on-the-job work experience, and the opportunity to apply knowledge and demonstrate strengths in efforts to assist Carrier in achieving its business strategy.

    As a Model-Based Design (MBD) Project Support Intern will be given tasks that support the overall goal of the MBD (Model-based Design) group to develop new and optimized thermal system models for cooling products to meet Residential product qualification and market needs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES :

    • Collaborate with MBD and Cooling engineers to complete thermal system modeling and miscellaneous tasks to develop working system models for residential cooling products
    • Develop specific physics-based thermo-fluid dynamic system models of HVAC components and systems that are both efficient and robust
    • Assess and validate the steady-state thermal system models
    • Perform Dynamic Model Validation:
      • Collaborate with MBD, control, and test engineers to collect test data for calibrating and validating dynamic models
      • Write MATLAB scripts to process experimental data and modeling results
      • Determine the values of the key parameters, resulting in a good match between modeling predictions with associated test data
      • Automate the process for data processing and comparison
    • Support Psychroom Turnback data/signal analysis & statistics for the Residential Digital Twin.
    • Inform stakeholders of MBD system analysis and results
    • Present analysis and recommendations

    PREFERRED SKILLS:

    • Experienced in MBD system modeling (thermo-fluid) for Residential HVAC systems
    • Experienced in Steady-State Thermal System modeling and Model validation
    • Fundamental understanding of Compressor Dynamics
    • Experienced in Matlab/Simulink programming
    • Experienced in applying Numerical techniques
    • Analytical (manipulate data)
    • Strong Communication (written and verbal)
    • Creativity - identify issues and present solutions/alternate approaches
    • Knowledge and experience with fundamental thermodynamics, fluids, and heat transfer

    QUALIFICATIONS :

    • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
    • COVID-19 vaccines will be required for all newly hired Carrier U.S. Salaried employees
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
    • Strong organizational,analytical,andproblem-solvingskills
    • Self-driven and proactive
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
    • Team player and willing to collaborate with others on projects

    EDUCATION

    • Must be currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree majoring in Engineering or related field of study
    • GPA must be greater than or equal to 3.0 GPA
    • Relevant coursework or previous internships preferred
