    Job Description

    Summary:

    As part of Wabtec’s Global Supply Chain Industry 4.0 team, the Staff MES Implementation Engineer will collaborate with Product Owners, Software Architects, and development teams to validate, configure, and deploy Industry 4.0 pillar applications across global manufacturing sites. In this role, the engineer will help define and execute repeatable implementation processes, leveraging standardization and automation where possible to support communication, training, and successful deployment of MES and related applications.

    In addition, this role will work closely with cross‑functional teams to identify, design, and implement process changes that deliver tangible productivity and reliability improvements. The engineer will be responsible for translating these optimized processes into the digital environment by reconfiguring the MES to mirror the new workflows. This includes owning the related change control activities end‑to‑end to ensure alignment, documentation, and controlled deployment.

    This position requires onsite involvement during major MES implementations. The engineer will play a key role in shaping and refining global rollout standards, working closely with functional leaders and shop floor users to understand business processes, translate requirements, test functionality, and deliver effective end user training. Ensuring stable go‑lives and providing post‑deployment support (hypercare) are essential components of this role.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Own all aspects of configuration management for all MES instances, including new configurations for all MES instances and change management and change management cycles
    • Develop and document configuration standards and design decisions
    • Partner with cross functional teams to design and implement process improvements to meet productivity and reliability goals
    • Provide training sessions and create documentation
    • Lead major implementations, remotely and onsite as needed to ensure a flawless deployment
    • Develop and maintain project plans, timelines and deliverables
    • Establish implementation and configuration deployment cycles and processes that fulfil stakeholder needs as well as the development team.
    • Configure role-based access and navigation flows
    • Test and deploy MES systems and adjacent applications across the globe
    • Provide aftercare and support of I4.0 Products
    • Raise newly identified product features, associated benefits and drive prioritization discussions with the respective Product Owner
    • Upgrade and migrate existing applications to new software platforms or latest versions
    • Provide L3/L4 Support – including during standard and non-standard business hours
    • Identifies cost-out, consolidation opportunities, and automation opportunities
    • Maintains relationships with critical stakeholders to ensure common business goals are achieved
    • Engage in technical discussions; participate in technical designs and present technical ideas
    • Work closely with your peers and keep engaging in a fast pace technical design and development team
    • Execute in a fast-paced delivery mode to deliver functionality to meet the product release and implementation goals
    • Be curious and innovative; challenge yourself by taking on additional deliverable of interest – including development

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or “STEM” Majors (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) or minimum of 7 years of comparable experience required

    • Preference given to industry experience, such as internships and CoOps, LEAD program rotation in Information Technology with a focus on MES and shopfloor system related project implementation, or direct, on the job industry experience

    • Stated willingness to work non-standard hours/workdays on occasion and as needed to lead major project implementations and software deployments

    • Stated willingness to travel domestically and internationally to support major projects. Expected annual travel is <20% but may fluctuate based on cyclical business needs

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    Technical Expertise:

    • Conceptual knowledge or basic first-hand experience of project management methodologies

    • IT technical knowledge and acumen of IT hardware and software. First-hand experience of databases, interfaces, middleware, etc.

    • Willingness to learn or conceptual knowledge of software development, IoC, and cloud hosted technologies within the IT space – especially for shop floor facing applications

    • Conceptual knowledge of data mapping in ERP systems

    • Querying data from SQL databases for configuration validation, troubleshooting and debugging

    • Proficiency translating modern manufacturing methodologies and processes into digital solutions

    • Ability to interpret business process requirements and convert them into MES functional designs

    • Knowledge of and experience in working with Unit Exchange (UX) methodologies and processes

    • First-hand experience setting up and configuring MES and adjacent systems

    • First-hand experience with change control processes

    • Speaks, reads and writes highly proficiently within the English language

    • Articulates technical information to developers, architects, and functional domain experts

    • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous Industry 4.0 projects

    • Ability to develop executive level reporting (KPIs, implementation burndowns, etc.)

    • Maintains a professional presence and demeanor – especially during high pressure situations

    Physical Demands:

    • Employee is regularly required to lead, listen, talk, and participate in multiple conference calls throughout the workday
    • Employee is regularly required to work at a desk/computer for the full workday
    • Employee occasionally may be required to work outside of normal working hours and on weekends or holidays to support planned project implementations, software deployments, break/fix of critical applications, or business travel
    • Employee must be able and willing to travel, both domestic and internationally, per Wabtec travel policy

    Work Environment:

    • Employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment
    • Employee is expected to work from their assigned Wabtec office in accordance with the Wabtec policy in effect at the time, which is currently a hybrid work environment requiring a minimum of three days in the office (Tuesday-Thursday).
    • During occasional visits to areas of manufacturing operations, employee will be required to adhere to proper attire and PPE & safety requirements for that area. This may include, but is not limited to ear plugs, safety glasses, hardhats, steel toed shoes, removal of finger rings, etc.

The salary rate for this role is currently $79100-112800 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
