    BUSINESS CONTRIBUTION:   Develop and maintain biomedical textile products, design methods, techniques, practices and procedures with a focus on customer interaction to ensure the design and manufacture of products which meet and exceed customer expectations

     

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Design and develop products to meet customer and market needs.

    • Consult and guide customers to biomedical textile solutions by leveraging fabrication techniques including braiding, weaving, knitting, non-woven formation and post-processing techniques to create new and novel structures.

    • Manage the program details of all assigned customer projects including timelines, deliverables, milestones, recurring calls and overall engineering communication with the client team.

    • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with assigned client list and report on customer project timelines, part quantity and revenue forecasts, and seek additional opportunities for the expansion of business.

    • Create and issue quotations for management review for development project deliverables. These proposals shall include internal manufacturing costs and raw materials (COGS) and allocation of time per operation.

    • Develop and document customer design inputs and project milestones to support the company’s internal product development process and comply with Quality Management standards. Schedule and host design transfer meetings as projects progress through the stage gate produce development process.

    • Successfully interact with medical customers, raw material providers and industry groups to identify market opportunities.

    • Stay current in the status of medical device products and IP that may affect the company’s competitive position, evaluate these products, provide analysis, and suggest countermeasures as necessary.

    • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure that all applicable quality procedures and regulations are followed throughout the development, manufacturing, and launch phases.

    • Support business development efforts by providing technical assistance, sales and capability presentation materials, field support, and/or other related activities as needed.

    • Expand Cortland’s expertise in state-of-the-art engineering, manufacturing methods and materials utilization through technical journals, seminars, advance degree programs, etc. 

    • 15-20% domestic and international travel in support of customers, engineering projects, joint industry programs and trade conferences.

     

    REQUIRED CAPABILITIES (describe scope of knowledge and ability of the position): • BS Degree in Mechanical, Materials or Textile Engineering or Technology from an accredited university 

    • Familiar with the physical and mechanical characteristics of polymers, fibers and fabrics

    • Familiar with the use of synthetic polymers, bioresorbable polymers  and/or metallic wires in medical device  products 

    • Must have demonstrated creative problem solving and effective engineering decision making skills.

    • Effective verbal and written communication skills and comfortable interacting with team members and customers at all levels.

    • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as a team member. 

    • Self-starter able to work under minimal supervision 

    • Capable of generating and delivering presentations to management, peers and medical device customers.

    • Demonstrated proficiency of design software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks a plus.
