    SUMMARY 

    Builds market position by locating, developing, defining, negotiating, and closing business relationships. Presents and sells products to new and existing accounts and follows up with these customers to confirm that products delivered meet their needs.

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develops new customers, either through increasing sales of existing products or development of new products within the company’s capabilities.
    • Assists Director in analyzing sales data, as well as developing and managing the sales forecasts, pipelines and funnels.
    • Maintains an intimate knowledge of our markets, opportunities, competition, sales obstacles, and effectively communicates this information to the appropriate company personnel.
    • Communicates with cross functional teams to facilitate mutual understanding of customer needs.
    • Works with Cortland Biomedical’s technical staff to troubleshoot customer problems and determine requirements for development projects.
    • Attends (as needed) and represents Cortland Biomedical at trade functions, expos, seminars, and customer functions.
    • Becomes knowledgeable of product/services, as well as competitors’ products/services in order to assist or direct new product development and strategy.
    • Becomes conversant, stays abreast of and informs on industry trends, developments, regulatory changes, customer and market related compliance, barriers, certification needs, and customer innovation that represent opportunities.
    • Utilizes industry knowledge and data to recommend both short and long term strategies for the sales organization.
    • Participates in continuous improvement process to eliminate problems, streamline operations, or other areas as defined by management.

    SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES -_  _

    • Professionalism in all forms of external and internal customer communications, i.e. phone etiquette, email protocol, fax correspondence, letters, etc.
    • Capable of navigating in and understanding our ERP systems as well as general computer skills.
    • Ability to work directly with and communicate amongst all team members.
    • Highly skilled at problem solving coupled with a high degree of knowledge on Cortland products, processes and procedures.  
    • Must be able to troubleshoot service related product issues by performing research and extensively communicating with the various functional areas.
    • Basic electronic spreadsheet, data base and word processing software skills are required, preferably Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) applications.
    • Must have the ability to read and interpret financial reports.
    • Be able to work efficiently from remote or home office with little or no supervision
    • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information in written, oral and diagram formats

     

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree.

    Experience Requirements: 5+ years of sales experience with at least 3 years in business development preferably in the medical device sector.

    Certification Requirements: N/A

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Employee will have to be able to travel to a variety of work locations, including traveling by air/auto to remote sites. Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members in person, telephonically, and electronically at all levels within a diverse workforce and with supported organizations. Employee is able to work in front of a personal computer and telephone for long periods of time, as well as sitting for a period of time due to travel.

    Approximately 50% of travel within region.
