    BUSINESS CONTRIBUTION: Develop and maintain biomedical textile products and processes, manufacturing methods, techniques, practices and procedures with a focus on component processing to ensure the manufacture of products which meet and exceed customer expectations.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Design and develop products to meet customer and market needs.
    • Leverage textile fabrication techniques including braiding, weaving, knitting and non-woven formation to create new and novel structures.
    • Design and implement novel post-processing techniques for the scouring, finishing, or final assembly of biomedical textile components.
    • Develop and document detailed manufacturing processes, including written work instructions, process flow charts and process control forms, to support the company’s internal product development process and comply with Quality Management System standards.
    • Support the development of new products and processes by designing fixturing, manufacturing aids, templates and other aides to support the repeatable manufacture and scale-up of production parts.
    • Prepare internal drawings, routers, and process control forms and assist the technical specialist staff in the production of prototypes in accordance with sound engineering principles and project goals. 
    • Stay current in the status of competitive products, raw materials, new manufacturing technologies and IP that may affect the company’s competitive position, evaluate these products, provide analysis, and suggest countermeasures as necessary.
    • Collaborate with Quality to ensure that all applicable quality procedures and regulations are followed throughout the stage gate development process phases.
    • Write and execute engineering, process characterizations and scientific protocols to support the creation of statistically based product specifications
    • Create, audit, and review test standards and methods for the analysis of design concepts and component assemblies. 
    • Support business development efforts by providing technical assistance, sales and capability presentation materials, field support, and/or other related activities as needed.
    • Expand Cortland Biomedical’s expertise in state-of-the-art engineering, manufacturing methods and materials utilization through technical journals, seminars, advance degree programs, etc. 
    • 10-15% domestic and international travel in support of customers, engineering projects, joint industry programs and trade conferences

    REQUIRED CAPABILITIES (describe scope of knowledge and ability of the position):

    • BS Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical or Textile Engineering or Technology from an accredited university
    • Familiar with the physical and mechanical characteristics of polymers, fibers, yarns and fabrics
    • Familiar with the use of synthetic polymers, bioresorbable polymers and/or metallic wires in medical device products 
    • Must have demonstrated creative problem solving and effective engineering decision making skills.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills and comfortable interacting with team members and customers at all levels.
    • Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as a team member. 
    • Self-starter able to work under minimal supervision 
    • Capable of generating and delivering presentations to management, peers and medical device customers.
    • Demonstrated proficiency of design software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks a plus.
