The Neuroscience Department is seeking postdoctoral fellowship applicants to be a part of an interdisciplinary team of biologists, geneticists, and chemists within Merck Research Laboratories. Projects will seek to develop cell biology models and further understand cellular mechanisms pertinent to neurodegenerative disease, especially interrogating the mechanisms of synucleinopathy in Parkinsons disease. Postdoctoral fellows will have the opportunity to leverage genomic and transcriptomic findings to drive in vitro and in vivo studies to identify and validate cellular pathways relating to disease state using cell-based and rodent models. Candidates should have a strong background in neuroscience and in vitro techniques, a familiarity with application of bioinformatics to discovery research and a passion for interrogating the cellular mechanisms responsible for neurodegenerative disease. This fellowship is a unique opportunity to learn about the process of drug discovery while contributing to the advancement Merck's drug development pipeline. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: -Working with disease area collaborators in the planning and execution of studies. -Conducting in vitro cell culture experiments and analysis using a variety of techniques including but not limited to protein quantification and visualization, mRNA profiling, e.g. single cell RNAseq, and genetic manipulation via siRNA or viral transduction. -Independent analysis and interpretation of data. -Communication of findings at project teams and external conferences as well as through peer-reviewed publications.mrlpostdoc Qualifications Education Minimum Requirement: -A PhD with less than (3) years of postdoctoral experience OR graduating with a PhD by summer of 2019. Required Experience and Skills: -Ability to conceive, design, execute and communicate complex experiments in the field of neuroscience as evidenced by publications. -Background in neuroscience, neurodegenerative disease or related discipline. -Fluency in primary and recombinant cell culture and performing genetic manipulations.in cell models. -Fluency in in vitro lab techniques including protein and mRNA extraction, measurement, & visualization. -Must be an independent scientist with an ability to excel in a team environment.Preferred Experience and Skills: -Bioinformatics/genomic analysis and single cell RNAseq techniques. -Models of protein aggregation, misfolding, and/or lysosomal/mitochondrial dysfunction. -Rodent handling and rodent models of neurodegenerative disease.
