The Discovery Sample Management Department within Merck Research Laboratories located in Rahway, NJ is seeking an undergraduate summer intern. The summer intern will be exposed to core instrumentation critical to modern pharmaceutical analysis, process characterization, and drug substance physical attributes determination. Additionally, interns will learn the fundamentals of sound analytical and physical chemistry method development necessary to problem solve as a member of an integrated team in support of the Merck small and large molecule pipeline. The Discovery Sample Management Department will expose the intern to various expert groups in the area of sample management, high-throughput analysis, molecular and materials characterization including high end mass spectrometry techniques to further broaden the experience. The intern will also attend departmental and team meetings to provide a wider perspective on the drug discovery process in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a full- time internship position. Housing subsidy is not available as part of this program and must be funded 100% by the student.Qualifications Education: -Required: Candidates must be currently pursuing a bachelors degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, material science or pharmaceutical science. Required Experience and Skills: -Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (12) consecutive weeks beginning in May or June of 2019. -Candidates must have completed at least (2) years of studies toward bachelors degree by June 2019. Preferred Experience and Skills: -Candidates should have basic laboratory skills and research experience preferred, including experience with high performance liquid chromatography using various detection.
