Merck Animal Health is offering a summer internship opportunity at our De Soto, Kansas R&D facility as a member of a research team developing new solutions for protection of cattle against infectious disease pathogens. In this role, the intern will learn and perform laboratory procedures used during the development of vaccines, which may include but not be limited to bacterial and virological assays, tissue culture, ELISA, in vitro protein expression, virus purification, serological assays and PCR. The internship may also involve work with animals. Summer Internship appointments are generally 9-12 weeks in duration. Interns will receive an industry competitive stipend. This position does not provide housing or relocation assistance. Qualifications Education Minimum Requirement: -Candidates must have completed the sophomore year in a bachelor program in a Life Science discipline of Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biology, or Animal Science.Required Experience and Skills: -Available for a period of 9-12 weeks beginning the last of week of May 2019. -Critical thinking skills to carry out instructions and make decisions within scope of authority. -Ability to follow policies and procedures and committed to making an active contribution to team goals. -Positive attitude and a strong work ethic.Preferred Experience and Skills: -Experience working in a science laboratory and applicable safety procedures. -Understand general microbiological, biochemical, immunological principles. -Have general computer skills in word processing, data management, and graphics. -Have good communication skills and the ability to keep accurate records. -Your role at Merck is integral to helping the world meet new breakthroughs that affect generations to come, and were counting on your skills and inventiveness to help make meaningful contributions to global medical advancement.
