The Protein Science Department at the Merck Research Labs Boston site is seeking a summer intern to learn protein expression and protein purification skills involved in large molecule drug discovery. The selected candidate will develop skills in mammalian cell culture, E.coli expression and multiple aspects of therapeutic protein purification using the latest technologies. These skills are highly translatable to other positions in biotechnology and will be valuable to any candidate seeking a career in science and technology. The intern will also be exposed to internal drug discovery programs and relevant project teams to gain a general understanding of discovery research in an industrial biopharmaceutical setting. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, detail oriented, and excited to learn and contribute to the drug discovery process at Merck. This is a full- time internship position. Housing subsidy is not available as part of this program and must be funded 100% by the student. Qualifications Education: -Required: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a minimum of a bachelors degree program in biology, biochemistry, biochemical engineering, or a similar science-related field. Required Experience and Skills: -Candidates must be available to work full-time for up to (12) consecutive weeks beginning in May or June of 2019. -Candidates must have completed at least (2) years of studies toward a bachelors degree by June 2019.
